Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Potter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jack. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 1999 I decided to quit my job and become a personal trainer. I got my certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and got a job at a local gym. After a few years I became a fitness manager. In 2007 I decided to go on my own become an independent trainer. It was the best decision I ever made.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning your own business has its ups and downs, but if you’ve done your homework you should be ok. In business you need to look for change, embrace change, and go with it, or you’ll be left behind.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Personally Designed Fitness LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
My clients hire me because they want private personal training. They don’t want to go to a big change gym and deal with the crowds at all the different personalities. I train my clients at their homes or at my studio. My typical client is a doctor, lawyer, CEO, actor, etc. Some of my senior clients hire me to work on their functionality, more biomechanics and physical therapy type training. Occasionally I do get people for weight loss, also the occasional person who is looking to become a police officer or firefighter. They are needing to get in shape before they go to the Academy.
I train my clients using the National Academy of Sports Medicine method, which is the industry’s first and only comprehensive training program based on current scientific research that provides undisputed results specific to individual needs and goals.
By incorporating multiple types of training—flexibility, cardio respiratory, core, balance, reactive, speed, agility, quickness, and strength—into every program, this method improves all biomotor abilities and builds high levels of functional strength, neuromuscular efficiency, and dynamic flexibility.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the industry needing to service more seniors, with more baby boomers ageing they’ll need training that focuses on flexibility, core strength, and balance.
