Today we’d like to introduce you to Jac Carrera.
Jac, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story in the entertainment industry began when I was three years old and I would pretend/act all around the house. I remember one time my mom and I put on a little musical, I don’t remember all the details but I remember how fun it was. What really got me into loving acting was Spiderman. I would watch the movie back to back and tell my mom all the time that I wanted to be on TV. By the age of five, I booked my first job in a film called “A Precious Life”. As time passed, my mom didn’t push me into the industry, she let me be a kid. You know when they say if it’s in your blood, no matter how many years pass by, that passion still lives inside. In 2015 we were sitting watching the CW show “Arrow” and I told my mom I wanted to be on TV. She looked at me and told me it was a commitment and a lot of work so she wanted to be sure I was ready. I looked at her and said,”yes, that’s what I want to do” and the rest is history. I have been in a few films, television shows, commercials, music videos, and was one of the faces for the Universal Kids network. I am represented by Lil Angels Unlimited and Innovative Artist. Today I am still working on perfecting my skills and knocking on all the doors until one opens. I am proud to say that I have used my platform to organize a few charity events and now I have created an award show to honor and celebrate young performers, like me, on the East Coast. I have been nominated for four awards and they all have been from organizations in Los Angeles. I always wondered why New York City doesn’t provide a platform for us young performers to open doors and for networking opportunities. I introduced Skyline Performer Awards to the world this year, my little entrepreneur journey. It’s been a wild ride but I am thankful to my mother who is a powerhouse and when she sets her mind on something, she makes sure it gets done. Her favorite saying is “we will figure it out” and we always do.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When you start the path for whatever journey you decide to take, you will encounter some bumps but it is up to you what you will do. If you trip and fall, get yourself up and keep going, no one ever said it was going to be easy. I have gone through a lot of challenges along the way, I was bullied in middle school and I am not just talking about verbal and keep moving there was more damaging acts. I am thankful I have a strong support system that helped me get through this and kept me grounded. I take those experiences and I use them to make me stronger, to believe in myself more and know that the only person I should be in competition with is myself. In this industry, I could say I still struggle, but when I decided that I wanted to be an actor, I was prepared for this. I know there will be millions of No’s before the Yes but in the meantime, I will continue preparing myself and growing because once I get my foot in the door I will be unstoppable.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Skyline Performer AwardsS – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I started an award event called Skyline Performer Awards. It is an award show to celebrate and honor young performers in film, television, theater, dance and music. It’s our first year and we were very excited to have New York City’s first-ever young performer award show but due to Covid-19, this year’s award show will take place online. I am so proud that no matter what, we kept it going because, the saying is true, the show must go on. It was a lot of work but we have managed to pull it through. What sets us apart is just the simple fact that we are the first award show of its kind in New York. We have a category for young DJs but we didn’t get any submissions in this category this year. Hopefully next year we will get more submissions now that word of our award show is spreading.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Future plans are always a good thing because I am a Brooklyn kid with big dreams. I want to book more jobs and continue providing humanitarian services. I want to make sure Skyline Performer Awards makes its mark in the entertainment world and make it a bigger event as the years go on. I am looking forward to so many things but I am focused to take it one step at a time and enjoy the ride. I want to be the actor who when I receive an Oscar, I can say it was not easy, it took a lot of sweat, and tears to get here but it has been so worth it. I want my future to be bright and for all my dreams and goals to come true.
