Meet J. Anders

Today we’d like to introduce you to J. Anders.

Hi J. Anders, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve done everything from designing websites, branding and merchandising to acting, but these days I’m focusing full-time on my music. In 2013, I went to school for Audio Engineering and Post Production and graduated in 2015 but I’ve been making music for over ten years. I’ve always been a fan of writing and creating all types of different music from rap, hiphop, r&b, to alternative, Neo-soul, and lo-fi.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For a long time, it was a struggle to find a consistent professional studio that took my time and talent seriously. Most people unfortunately have a “crab in a barrel” mentality when it comes to this industry, not all people but a lot, and that was a struggle to overcome when you genuinely want to create dope content and people are focused on instant gratification versus the bigger picture. I’m the type of person who wants to see everyone win so I’ll give away the plug and share information if it means I can help someone else grow as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m currently working on a few projects. On September 16th, I released a project titled “Sunsets In The We$t” produced by my good friend Meetro. I have more singles with Timeless Music that will be releasing soon as well as a series of singles with my collective 8o8 Soundz and duo Jrdn Andrsn so I’ve definitely been keeping busy. On November 18th 8o8 Soundz and I will be in Anchorage Alaska performing at the Fall Festival alongside other dope artists like Dane Amar, Lawrence Park and headliner Heartbreaka, so I’m super excited and proud to be a part of the whole experience.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If someone is just starting out in this industry I would advise them to take a long hard look into what it takes to pursue a career in music. Like others, I’ve been striving forward for many years but it definitely hasn’t been without setbacks. It takes a lot of sacrifice from the average routine if you work a job, alongside a lot of financial investing in yourself from production, quality studio time, visuals, cover art for your projects, travel expenses for live shows, website maintenance, answering emails or calls to keep a good rapport with other artists, networking events, merchandise, etc. This is not a cut and dry career.
