Meet Ivy Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Martinez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always been in love with the Arts. When I was a child I loved dancing, singing, putting a show for my family. I still do. I fell in love with fashion when I became a teenager, I picked up an eclectic style. No rules, just anything that made me feel confident and beautiful. I always loved photography ever since I had a camera phone I would have thousands of pictures that would take up all my storage. I remember buying those small canon cameras and photographing every event with friends. Right after high school I knew I wanted to do something creative and I decided to go to Beauty school.

Later in my early 20’s I started working in the fashion industry, I did production for Handbags and sunglasses for almost 7 years I was building the lines from beginning to end. From creating a style to building a catalog to selling them. Art had always been part of my life throughout the years but I continued on to changing my career to the law field a couple of years ago. That wasn’t for me. So, I made another change to get back to art, I never knew that my love for photography would end up being my full-time job until a few months ago when I decided to leave my 9-5 and pursue this new photography journey full time. It was not an easy decision since I knew that I was risking not having an income for a while but luckily, I have a boyfriend that is a Wedding photographer and I have assisted ever since we started dating a couple of years ago. He has been one of my biggest fans and supporter ever since we were friends. I knew that pursuing

photography would change my life I took a leap of faith to pursue something amazing something that makes me happy and I don’t regret it. I love photos, I love photographing other people, stories, the beauty of nature. I love learning about myself through the art of photography, I am still learning and I am confident that my journey is one that I will be telling my children about while showing them my photographs and the amazing things I got to do in this amazing field of creativity and expressionism. I am now working doing what I love and I am very grateful to be able to do so.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a lifestyle, nature and wedding photographer. I draw inspiration from art, nature, color, people adventure and exploration. I have always been in love with The Arts I believe that life is art from what we eat, wear, or do on an everyday basis. I photograph people, thing and places because it fulfills my mind and gets me out of my comfort zone. The more we create the more we learn about ourselves and others, Art is an incredible teacher and it is all around us. Art Never leaves us we just need to tap it on the shoulder and say I am ready! I want to create! I want to take photographs! I want to see the other side of me.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I think creativity takes courage. You have to have courage and have to be confident to be an artist because not every artist is born with it. Sometimes you’ve got to dig deep to bring out that magic. To be successful there has to be courage and confidence of what it is you are creating. Once you have those two the possibilities are endless. You have succeeded.
