Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivan Estrella.
Hi Ivan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was only 13 years old when I lost most of my vision. My doctor’s prognosis for me was grim. At any moment, I could end up paralyzed or worse.
With time, I learned how to deal with the fear; of course, that fear never really goes away. And I also learned how to accept the reality of my condition. My reality.
In college, I made a decision that would change my life forever. “If I lose my vision, if I lose my ability to walk, I still have my voice…”
I decided that I wanted to use my voice to make the world a better place… through music.
I could never imagine how that decision would change my life forever.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m sad to say my health sharply declined over time. I continued to lose my vision, I began to have increased difficulty walking, difficulty sleeping, difficulty with the pain, both mental and physical. BUT I NEVER GAVE UP!!!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Today, I am focused on developing my tribute to the King of Rancheras, Vicente Fernandez.
Don Vicente has always been like a Godfather to me. In 2009, Vicente Fernandez held an international Singing Contest. I was honored to be selected by Don Vicente as the winner.
I’ve had the honor of teaming up with Live Nation and touring across the Southwestern United States with my Vicente Fernandez Tribute concert series. It’s been a dream come true.
I’ve also worked with local cities to bring this concert experience to local communities as part of the summer concert series.
What do you think about happiness?
The power of giving. Community is everything. Doing something special for someone else always makes me feel good. Inspiring others to never give up that’s really what it’s all about.
