Meet Isaiah Alston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Alston.

Isaiah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a 22-year-old singer-songwriter, actor, dancer, model, and overall entertainer. I was born in Jersey City, New Jersey then five years later, I moved to Hamilton, New Jersey where I still reside. Ever since I can remember, I was singing and dancing. Using the remote controller or the end of a jump rope as a microphone, singing all around the house. Where I officially started using what my family calls my “gift” was singing on the church’s choir and worship team. From the church, I started branching out to my school’s musicals in middle school. Theatre is where I fell in love with the stage. The art of performing, a live audience, all of it! In high school, theatre held a very special place in my heart but I knew singing was my passion. So, freshman year, I auditioned for Season 3 of The X Factor. It was just my mother and me, a 14-year-old kid who loved to sing. Many rounds and cuts later, I found myself as one of the top ten finalists for the boys’ category. It was after that experience where I knew I could and had to pursue this for my career. I believe music and using my voice is my divine purpose in this life. So here we are, almost seven years after my most pivotal experience on The X Factor stage I am releasing my debut single “In My Feelings!”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As nice as it would have been to walk a clean path to where I am now, that’s not the case. After my devasting defeat on national television, I second-guessed my gifts and talent for so long. From the public humiliation of losing, being a high school student, and dealing with teenagers who think you’re “different” or who think you’re stuck up because you were on television, to complete strangers ripping you to shreds online because they think their opinion “matters.” At 14 years old, my mental and emotional health was impacted by things that some people will never experience especially at that age. In addition, learning about the industry and understanding, for lack of a better word, “bs” that comes with it. People who only want to prostitute your gifts and talents for their benefit and do not actually care about you. How no matter how many contracts and deals you’re offered until its signed, sealed, and delivered – it is not set and stone. Trusting people because they are “family” but learning the hard way that business is business. However, through those trying times, I learned how important it is to not only trust my artistic ability but trust my gut as well. Ultimately knowing what God has for me is for me. When the opportunities I’ve worked every day to get on the table began to come to fruition, I ran with it. And I’ve been running ever since!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Wow.. what a question. I believe the proudest moment(s) in my career would have to be the time leading up to now. I am on the cusp of release my very FIRST single as an INDEPENDENT artist with a completely original sound and vision brought to you by yours truly. In this season, I have humbly learned how impactful and inspirational I can be to the incredible community of powerful individuals around me and how much unwavering support I truly have. I can’t wait for you to hear my heart and soul in my upcoming single and EP.
