Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Rocha.
Isabella, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started modeling with a simple shoot with a photographer in CO who kept telling me, “you’re actually really good at this. Are you sure it’s your first time? You’re dealt natural when posing” etc. by luck our shoot got a lot of popularity in the area and more photographers started asking to shoot with me. This kept growing and so did my social media, eventually I felt comfortable and confidant enough in my ability to start charging for shoots that didn’t add to my book. Then it led to businesses asking me to model for them, starting locally but growing! Then it peeked when I was asked to model for Target, that was the moment I really felt like I could call my self a model. I had already had plans to move to LA for dance but now it was for modeling! Since then, I’ve started modeling full time and have gone on to work with a lot more brands and even some international ones!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no, not at all. I think anyone in this industry can relate to the “guy with a camera” stereotype. Simply put, it’s just some creep with a camera that uses photography as a scheme to get certain photos or be really predatory. There’s also an insane amount of plateauing, or the feeling that you’re plateauing. Feeling like you should be doing more, working harder, and it leads to you feeling stagnant. There’s so many external factors at play that aren’t in my full control. Agency needs, company needs, my physical limitations, it’s a lot to try and navigate. Beyond external, there’s my own self. I have massive self-confidence issues and deal with body dysmorphia.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a full-time freelance model, I do a wide range of work from e-commerce to beauty and fashion to product modeling! I’m sort of a chameleon where I’ll adapt to whatever job I’m given. That’s actually a big thing I’m proud of, my adaptability. I know who I am as a person but I have always had the ability to be given a task/character/job/vision and figure out how to create what is being asked of me. I’m known for being a good energy on sets and I’d like to think I bring the laughs!
I think what sets me apart is not individual parts of myself but the culmination of them. Everyone’s heard of a dancer/model, but it’s harder to find a dancer/model/comedian who did drag shows on the side.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking to get signed to an agency right now! I’ve done every part of brand work, social media, job applications, negotiations, and lifestyle maintenance all on my own. I definitely feel it’s time for me to relinquish a little control and grow in my career. I initially planned to start modeling in Tokyo but those plans have obviously been put on hold for quite a while!
