Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Lalonde.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Isabella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My background is in fine arts, and I’ve always loved fashion. I initially gravitated towards jewelry as a way to incorporate wearable art into the characters I created for my performance pieces. Ever since I was young, I loved art objects, such as handmade books, unique pottery and interesting charms. Jewelry is the perfect way for me to marry both my fashion and art sides into one unique world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think it’s ever a smooth road for a first-time entrepreneur (especially if you don’t have a business degree). My biggest struggle to this day is learning everything myself, through trial and error. Of course, I’ve always had great instincts because I set up my business to be very genuine and true to who I am, but I had to learn what did or didn’t work through firsthand experience. A lot of people don’t see that process, what it takes to get to where you are today. There’s always a backstory and learnings that were made along the way.
Beepy Bella – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m known for fantastical, mystical jewelry that is fun and innovative. What I’m most proud of is that I continue to cultivate my art practice because it is seamlessly integrated into my business. I spend all my nights making cool images for my products, which I treat as I would a painting or sculpture. I get to create and learn both personally and professionally on a constant basis. When I was growing up, I never thought I would own a business, but I find that being an artist and viewing a brand through that perspective has set me apart from others. My intentions are different, and they are more focused on the conceptual and experiential qualities of jewelry rather than being commercially-minded.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There’s a lot of things I’m proud of myself for accomplishing. The biggest would be growing my social media following because it means more people are being exposed to my message and artwork than ever. I feel like I finally get to have a conversation with others about my work, and they are impacted by my designs. It’s wild.
