Today we’d like to introduce you to Nelson Recinos.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nelson. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came to the USA when I was 18 years old. It was very difficult at first because I had left friends and other family members in my country, and I could not speak English well.
As a kid, I used to watch cartoons such as Warner Brothers’ Looney Tunes and the Disney classic films. I used to draw these characters all the time. I think I was five years old as far as I can remember when I started drawing. In my wild dreams, I would ever thought I would end up working on the Classic Warner characters.
I had a chance to finish high school at Burbank High School.
In High School, I took English classes, art, and drama. After graduating from Burbank High School, I went to study art and architecture at Los Angeles Valley College.
When I was attending Los Angeles Valley College, my brother saw some drawings I had done for an art class. He told me that the drawings looked very good and that if I was interested, he could get me into an animation program Hanna-Barbera’s studios was offering at the time to potential animators. I had to show some of my drawings and I got in. I had the opportunity to learn from some of the best animators who were working during the day and stayed for a few hours after to teach these classes. After I finished with the program, I was offered a job at the studio.
I worked for Hanna Barbera on a few shows and went to work for Filmation thereafter, where I worked on He-Man, She-Ra and other shows, I stayed there for a few years.
After Filmation, I went to work for Warner Brothers where I worked in the classics department. We did a lot of TV commercials using most of the classic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, Porky Pig, and the other classic characters.
After working in the classics department for a few years, I became a director and worked on Pinky and the Bain, what a great show, the writing was amazing! Young kids liked the silliness of Pinky and college kids like the clever ideas in which the Brain was trying to take over the world.
I directed the show for five years. Pinky and the Brain was nominated for five Emmys and we won three of them.
After many years of working in the animation industry as a Director, I went back to business school to get a business degree in order to understand how to deal with executives and pitch my projects.
I attended Woodbury University and got a degree in Business and Management, after completing the Bachelor’s Degree, I decided to continue with a Masters Degree in Business which I completed in one year. I started my own animation company to create and produce my own IPs and give minority artists the opportunity to work in animation. Now, I’m working on my own projects.
I’m promoting equal opportunity for Girls, Women, and Latinos in animated Films and Television programming.
Here are some projects I created and I’m going to produce.
The Magic of Discover is a multiethnic preschool show that teaches and motivates children to learn about the arts, music, culture, dance, history and languages of different regions around the world.
The reason I created this project was because for the past years, I’ve been given back to the community by tutoring inner-city elementary and middle school children who are way behind in their academics. I’ve been helping them with Language Arts, Math, and History. I know this show will teach and introduce children to many interesting people and places around the world.
The main characters Carl, Rosie, Antoine and Lin are transported to a different city, country, or time period where they will meet famous composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Frederic Chopin, scientists like Albert Einstein and Alfred Nobel, inventors like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, computer wizards like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, painters such as Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo…. but not as adults. These famous people were once children who at the age of 7 or 8 were already something special. Our characters will learn a lot about these prodigious masters.
They will travel to Russia, Germany, France, Italy, England, India, Spain, China, Japan, Korea, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and many other countries to learn about their people and cultures.
The Magic of Discovery Link (Story book-Not Animated yet)
Game Access is a High-Tech 3D/CG/AR/VR/Mocap Animated Feature Film with Strong Female Character Leads and A-List Actors.
The movie is about video games and the story will take place in the US and China.
It promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
Game Access focuses in the importance of true friendship, deals with awareness against Bullying Cyberbullying, and teaches children to respect each other’s differences.

The production value for the movie will be superior to the original teaser which was intended for a Television series.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the challenges in producing animation are keeping the stories consistent, making sure they are good and engaging in all episodes, and directing the artists on keeping the look of the characters and settings the same all the time.
Right now, because of the COVID-19, many Animation studios stopped production and had to lay off many animators.
The business has been slow everywhere and one of the most difficult things about being in this industry is getting work on a consistent basis.
