Meet Ingrid Hernandez-Morrison of Modernica in Fairfax

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ingrid Hernandez-Morrison.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ingrid. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After graduation from architecture school in Latin America, I moved to Los Angeles and soon landed a job at Modernica, I have been with the company for 7 years. It was important to me to work in a field closely related with design and interiors. My position at Modernica has allowed me to further explore this and so much more. Being in a small company allows you the opportunity to be involved in many and different positions within the company. Every day is different and there’s always something to do, which keeps you highly engaged and busy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road is never easy, regardless of your position. I think the strength of any company is shown with how they pull together as a team to reach an end goal. I’m fortunate to work for a company with strong management and leaders that guide with everyone’s best interest in mind.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Modernica story. Tell us more about the business.
Modernica is a family-owned business that has been manufacturing furniture in Southern California for over 25 years. Our factory is located a few minutes south of Downtown LA’s Arts District, and our showroom is on Beverly Blvd. I handle various duties in the company but my formal title is Marketing Manager.

We are known for our high-end furniture, all manufactured in-house at our factory, from beds to storage units and fiberglass shell chairs and small home and office accessories. We are also known for our line of Case Study® Ceramics, which are extremely popular in the design world and with design savvy customers.

We are proud to remain in business after so many years, a lot of our employees have been with the company since the beginning and are true masters of their craft. When there’s so many companies making their furniture overseas, we stand apart by making our furniture right here in California.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We love to introduce new products to our line of furniture and ceramics. We look forward to adding pieces this year. We also hold various events throughout the year at our factory grounds. In the Spring, we will be hosting the bi-annual vintage marketplace. Downtown Modernism. That is always a great event filled with the best vintage dealers in Southern California, we also have great food trucks on site and special guests. It’s a family event we enjoy having at our factory.
