Meet Ilya Taran of Wedding Nature Photography in Thousand Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ilya Taran.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My father first introduced me to photography when I was eight years old. However, it had taken quite some time until I was completely enamored with the camera’s ability to capture slices of time and emotions as well as the ability to express who you are and what your vision is. Once it struck me, I never looked back. Originally from Europe, I moved to the East Coast where I continued my work in wedding photography. Where Europe sparked my passion, Florida expanded it and when I recently moved to California, it hands down became my favorite place to photograph. I fell in love with the weather, the land, the people and the diverse culture of California. All of these elements have made me feel at home.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Even though I am doing what I loved the most, there were and still are some challenges I face. Marketing was one of the challenge new photographers face and we did too. How do you break out of the sea of other photographers when the bar has been raised really high to be a standout photographer? I realized that nothing beats a strong portfolio. If you are following your passion and not just out there to “make a buck”, you will make it. Also, for a successful business, exceptional customer service is the key and if it’s not, you may go out of business before you know it. Proper handling of your client could prove to be a windfall for any business. We take our clients very seriously and will always go above and beyond for them if needed.

Wedding Nature Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Together with my wife Ines we are wedding photographers. We mostly known for our love of natural settings, diversity of light and candid emotions in our images. Everything begins in the heart and mind, inspired by wedding photography, we dreamt about building our own company and clientele that will be forever grateful for the images we produce for them. I am most proud of how the plan that I made six years ago lead to where we are now, doing something that we love the most. We enjoy life, do whatever makes us happy, and find joy in having a camera with us. I believe years of experience in the industry, combined with our signature style and passion for wedding photography is what sets us and our company apart from others.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
We love Los Angeles and nearby areas, a city of dreams, a tourist magnet, colorful and thriving we would definitely say it’s a great place to start your business as a professional wedding photographer. There are indeed a great variety of wedding venues in LA, romantic local and destination weddings and endless opportunities to connect with industry professionals. If you work on your goal each day, eventually you will achieve your dream and Los Angeles will help you!
