Today we’d like to introduce you to Ifeyinwa Eze.
Ifeyinwa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my hair business in 2016. My friend had just thought me how to braid hair and I ran with such knowledge. I kept practicing on myself and the females in my family.
When I finally mastered braiding, I went on to learn basic hairstyles like crochet that was popular then by watching YouTube videos. As I was doing these hairstyles I would post it on my Snapchat and people loved it. I was then persuaded to start my own hair page which I was hesitant at first. I created my hair page on Instagram (IfeSlays) and finally decided on the name.
As time went on, I was teaching myself better hair techniques and loved my client’s expressions when I finished their hair. Their excitement at the end gave me the motivation to keep going on and actually be serious about hair. I became more and more passionate about hair; making sure I achieve my goal of making every girl that sits in my chair even more beautiful.
You can’t have a business without investment. I invested so much time and products into my business. I kept promoting my client’s pictures, and my friends would also help me promote all over social media. When I came to college, my business expanded even more because people would find out that I do hair and I would do events to gain more exposure like a business expo.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running my hair business has not been a smooth road. When I first started, I would have to work two jobs and save money to invest in hair products. Also, having a place to do my client’s hair was a struggle because I didn’t have an area in my house that was “up to par.”
My mother had a daycare in the basement, and it was just my room to do people’s hair in. I didn’t like working in my house because of the invasion of privacy, but eventually, I was blessed to find a salon that is close to my house. A major thing was dealing with rude clients. However, from this, I learned how to do become better in customer service.
IfeSlays – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
IfeSlays is a hair business that caters to any hair type. I do many hairstyles from wigs to crochet, sew-ins, ponytails, and so on. I am mostly known for my frontal installs.
I am most proud of the skills I have learned throughout my years of doing hair. What sets me apart is that I make sure every client is satisfied before they leave my chair.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is finally achieving the goals that have been set. It is reaching the finish line. My criteria is making sure to achieve the smallest goals set then going bigger, Investing time and being dedicated.
