Today we’d like to introduce you to Huneycut.
Huneycut, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my journey as Huneycut in 2015. I was working in retail management for six years and one day, it hit me that I was no longer passionate about the work I was doing so I decided to make the transition. I had no prior experience in music or Deejaying (mostly in fashion) but I always had a love for music. So in late 2014, I quit my job and pursued DJing full time.
I had a part-time job the first two years of my career to sustain a stable income but I dedicated most of my time to learning the craft, practicing and going out to network. It took me almost three years to build my brand and work full time as a DJ. It definitely didn’t come easy but I was persistent and committed to my passion.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say the journey has been a rollercoaster many highs and lots of learning curves. A few of my trials along the way have been generating a stable income first, knowing my worth, asking for what I deserve and saying no to the jobs not aligned with me even if that means losing out on a check.
In the beginning of my career, I took on a lot of gigs where I didn’t get paid but I loved what I was doing so much that money wasn’t a defining factor at the time. It wasn’t until my second year and being broke that I had to make a change and that’s where ‘knowing my worth” came in. I learned that people will only take advantage as much as you let them and once you know that you deserve to be compensated for your work then you will get just that.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Huneycut is a well versed creative/artist. Known first as a DJ (vibe curator) and then as a fashion designer/model.
As an artist, I’m most proud to be independent and have built a name for myself globally. It’s been a long journey but I’m grateful that I can say that I’ve made it to where I’m at in my career through hard work and self-sufficiency. Being multifaceted has also allowed me to develop an eclectic sound, style and taste that sets me apart from the norm.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA for its scenic views, weather and it’s nature. You can go from the mountains to the beach all in one day. It’s so versatile and there’s always something to do.
Besides the smog and the lack of housing for the homeless, there really isn’t much I don’t like about the city.
