Meet Hope Hazy of Hope Hazy Artist Academy in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Hazy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have processed artistically for as long as I can remember and have utilized countless avenues to externalize who I am through art. Primarily, through singing, playing guitar and songwriting. When I was earning my music composition degree in college, I was taking guitar lessons from a very busy man who eventually had a roster too large for his own capacity. He then asked me to start taking some of his students. I started teaching and realized it was something I really enjoyed. I moved out to la in 2003 to pursue my own music career after graduation and decided to continue teaching lessons. The experiences I gained through one on one encounters with aspiring musicians were so rewarding, I decided I had to take this facet of my life to a new degree of intentionality. Over the course of the next couple years, I took some more conventional steps and put form around what I was already doing. Hence, the birth of “hope hazy artist academy.”

Has it been a smooth road? If not, can you talk us through some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced
My Self. The lack of clarity with what to do next. The lies I believed about my own weaknesses. That because I don’t ooze with the desire to network and administrate, I could never run a business. The daily choice to resist resistance and do the last thing I want to do in order to keep this company afloat… More-so, in order to keep my own family’s head afloat. Troubleshooting to find quirky systems that accommodate my personal work rhythm. Knowing how and where to find passionate artists. Effectively managing my time as a songwriter & artist, single-mother and entrepreneur. All preceding fragment statements are only a few of the elements of difficulty I’ve dealt with to even get to the place in which I officially launched the business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with hope hazy artist academy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
This company is devoted to customizing a creative & safe space for each artist to achieve personal & musical breakthroughs & ambitions. A few years ago, I was reflecting on the outcome of the work I had invested into several different artists~ ones who had gone on and gotten record deals and were booking worldwide tours and getting regular radio airplay as well as ones who were playing lullabies to their babies at home. I started investing thought and time into what, exactly, was so beautiful and valuable about these sessions. I realized I don’t just spend an hour giving technical direction to the artists with whom I work. I have the honor of probing their inner make-up and guiding a self-performed soul surgery. After working privately with over a thousand artists, I’ve deduced that we all have inhibiting walls that attempt to separate us from knowing what our messages are and how to communicate them. I gently get to help identify those walls and assist in their extraction which exposes the messages. Together, we translate those into art. I customize every session according to the overall vision of each artist while integrating a sensitivity to the movement of the present moment. I am as passionate about educating artists about their instruments, music theory, styles and techniques as I am about leading them through this life altering process into artistic freedom. The byproduct is the ability to express authentically & skillfully while musically delivering solid songs and messages with bold yet vulnerable voices. Through my teaching style & approach, proficiency is enhanced. Direction is established. Clarity is discovered. Music is created. Artists are fine-tuned. Souls are healed. Lives are changed.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is a delicious cocktail of humanity and creativity. I see a special dose of celebration and acceptance of others’ differences here. I experience a sense of responsibility to my calling that is in my face simply by living in this city. The collective creative momentum acts as a fuel that I can channel into my own productivity. I leave my apartment and grab a coffee at a local bistro that’s full of other creators and innovative thinkers whose presence inspires me to keep at my craft. To stay in the flow. I have access to cultures and people that provide opportunities for me to extinguish any hidden degree of insularity. I can expose myself and my kids to world-changing works of art in the very city in which those masterpieces were conceived. The church I get to call my family and home is immersed in global change and is made up of some of the most incredible humans I’ve ever met. This city attracts people who identify cracks and gaps in society and are built to respond pro-actively.

What I don’t like about living here is seeing people crushed with rejection. I don’t like the impact of that rejection and how it can lead to despair and hopelessness. I don’t like the culture of comparison which runs rampant in people in the same creative field. I don’t like seeing pretension accompany success.

This city has a lot of raw material. We can mindfully mold that material and manipulate it into shapes that assist us in our own journeys with integrity while inspiring others to do the same.
