Meet Hollywood Makeup Artist: Lindsey Martins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Martins.

Lindsey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was pursuing Hair in Cosmetology school and our class worked on a Michael Jackson Thriller Reenactment. From that moment on my love for makeup grew and within the year I was working as a Freelance Make Up Artist. Simultaneously my best friend, Bri Romano, was building up her Photography portfolio as well, so we began shooting at every opportunity. I’ve always been enthralled with Fashion and editorial photography so we would collaborate on shoots constantly and from there our careers began! for about 5 years I heavily pursued freelance artistry, working on everything from video shoots to red carpet. For the last year, I’ve been working with my favorite brand, Make Up For Ever, as Head Artist of their SoCal boutique located in Canoga Park!

Has it been a smooth road?
Navigating from creating free art to making an income was challenging, however enjoying the process of creating has always been easy! It’s in my bones to create. I’m never not working.

Have you ever felt like giving up?
I’ve been through some extremely demanding situations in the freelance world like waking up for a 3 am music video call time with food poisoning, or emotionally demanding like dealing with BIG egos and too many cooks in the kitchen type challenges. Regardless of what it is, I remind myself I’m going to be fine and I’ve survived everything else life has put in front of me, so this is going to be fine too. Also, every challenge has made me stronger and gives me more of a reason to believe in myself when the next obstacle arises.

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
If you don’t have a tough skin, be prepared to grow one. You have to learn to take feedback with an open mind and not get bugged out if someone wants you to change it or has a different vision. Be receptive to your team! You will encounter big personalities or big egos so just do you best to stay open and remain flexible.

Is there something you are particularly excited about or working towards?
Each year I’ve grown a lot both personally and professionally, that I can’t imagine where I’ll be in 5 years. So I’m excited to discover what else I become! Maybe a National Educator. Maybe a Mom. Maybe both.
