Meet Highland Park Photographer: Peter Lefevre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Lefevre.

Peter, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied photography in high school shooting on an old Canon film camera. I only shot black and white at the time. Over the years I was the only friend in my group to bring along my camera to parties and concerts. I loved capturing moments and memories that would have been lost forever, this was before everyone had a cell phone camera. Once digital came around I had a new found passion for photography and I threw myself into it. Since then I’ve shot concerts/festivals, band photos, red carpets, and lookbooks. I’ve never looked back.

Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles to this business, finding work, connecting with your audience and finding your niche. My best advice would be, as cliche as this may sound, is to be yourself and shoot what you love. The rest will follow. Because if you’re excited and love what you’re shooting that will come through in your work.

Have you ever wanted to stop doing what you do and just start over?
There were definitely moments I felt like quitting or giving up. When I felt like that I decided the best way to get inspired again was to read a book, meditate or go shoot a landscape. Whatever it was I had to step outside myself and remind myself that every artist has these moments but you must never give up otherwise you’ll never realize your full potential. The road to success is never a straight line.

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Network and build your brand. Shoot anything and everything that comes your way. Find what you love to shoot and what you’re good at. What is it that gets you excited and doesn’t feel like work? Do that.

What are you most excited about these days?
I’m excited to work and collaborate with new people. Where will I be in the next year and what new challenges will I encounter to make me a better photographer in the future. I already have a couple of personal shoots lined up for the new year that I’m very excited about and look forward to sharing with the world.
