Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Villa.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I (hollow visions) began my journey in music around 2013, recording and performing my original work. In 2014, I met the founder of “east of the river,” Mescal Miranda (vivamescal).
Later that year, me, mad Macks and vivamescal joined forces and began working together as a group, which later grew to become the “east of the river” we know now.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When perusing a dream as impossible as a music career, there is nothing but bumps in the road. I’ve been at this for five years, I’ve molded my personal life to facilitate music. You get the occasional “ get a real job and put music on the back burner” from loved ones.
The big breaks and near misses are an emotional roller coaster, and it can be a lot to handle. You push away those you love and bury yourself in creative space. It’s a beautiful/hard journey I wouldn’t trade for the world.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m an artist, but we as a collective are much more. We pride ourselves in being active in the community. In the past, we’ve worked alongside the boys and girls club on toy drives and raised hundreds of gifts for the kids in our community. We try to represent and change the perception people have when they “East LA hip-hop.”
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I look back, and there are definitely things that frustrate me, maybe would of taken certain things more serious, or finding my sound earlier but all in all I’m happy with where I’ve been and what I’ve done, as cheesy as it sounds I wouldn’t change a thing.
