Meet Henok Negash of Bow Tie Magician in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henok Negash.

Henok, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was raised as an only child, and I have always been very curious. At the age of 12, my mom took me to a magic shop in San Diego, CA. The shop owner showed me a couple of things and that one encounter changed my life.

From that point on, I was hooked. From the ages of 12-16, I was practicing about 3 hours a day. I was reading books that were only about sleight of hand and legerdemain.

After about age 16, I got out of magic because other things captured my interest. At the age of 21, I was invited to the Hollywood Magic Castle where I got to see some fantastic magicians and that experience reignited the fire. From that point on, I became re-obsessed and began practicing 4-6 hours a day.

The practice eventually paid off because 7 years later not only was I now a member of the Academy of Magical Arts, home of the Magic Castle, I was also a featured performer in one of their show rooms.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The hardest part is finding your own voice in magic. Many magicians end up doing the same magic tricks because magic is constricted by the number of impossible things that can be achieved. I am happy that I found a voice that was authentic and unique. Another obstacle is that I look different than most magicians. I would approximate that in all of magic, in America, men who are White tend to make up about 90% of the population. I am a man that has brown skin and unique looking features. When people hear that I’m a magician, they tend to do a double take and look at me in a perplexed fashion.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bow Tie Magician – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I perform magic that is highly interactive and modern in presentation. I have found a way to express my point of view in a way that is meaningful, funny and charming. Many times, you won’t even realize that you are witnessing something magical, but it all makes sense in the end when the magic suddenly hits you out of nowhere. I love to surprise people.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m just working on growing my business. While most magicians dream of working a theater in Las Vegas, that is not me. I would prefer to do formal shows in intimate settings. This includes people’s living rooms, banquet rooms, or any intimate area.

I love it whenever people can come together to experience something new and hopefully meet some future friends that shared in the collective experience.
