Meet Helen Schmidt of Helen is the Moon in Hollywood and Silverlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Helen Schmidt.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Wellness, mystics, and art was something I studied my entire life, purely because I enjoyed it so much. I honestly couldn’t imagine careers in them so I continued on just enjoying that world while I pursued a path in the Music Industry. In 2014, I went to the lifestyle music festival, Lightning in a Bottle. I’ve gone several years before, but that year was different because I was feeling convoluted with my path. I set an intention for the festival and asked for a sign on what I was supposed to do with my life. After endless workshops, talks, seeing god, etc. at the end of the festival, I knew my purpose, which was a Healer and an Artist. Tarot and Astrology were going to be my main tools since I was already using them for myself for over 5 years. So I did what I could to turn these passion hobbies into a profession. Something I could truly serve others with.

I was pretty much that girl in the office. I was asking everyone (who was interested) for their birth time, date, and location, so I could study their chart or letting people know that their fight over the phone was more than likely a miscommunication because Mercury was in Retrograde. I practiced reading my Tarot cards with anyone who was interested. I mean… anyone. I set up my cards on the corner Fountain and Seward one time during my roommates’ garage sale. That was certainly interesting, I would never do that again…

In the beginning of 2015, I put my two weeks’ notice in to commit to an “artist lifestyle”. I had little money saved and needed flexibility, so I took a part time front desk job at Wanderlust Hollywood. This became my central location as a Reader because I quickly also became their in-house Tarot Reader. This is when I birthed Helen is the Moon.

Everything moved so quickly after that and everything else I offer just fell into place. The best way to explain how I got to where I did was that I had faith in myself and I just showed up. It was never about what logically made sense, but that I knew it was going to work out because I just knew I was doing exactly what the Universe wanted me to do.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d say my path with Helen is the Moon has been overall really smooth. I noticed that once I fully committed to growing it, it really flourished. My biggest struggles were discerning what were the right opportunities to pursue and setting boundaries.

Sometimes it can feel like everyone wants to help or can help. It’s not that their help isn’t useful, but I had to learn and trust which one’s were in alignment with me and the company. Taking it one step further, to then feel comfortable assertively saying no to those I didn’t feel in alignment with.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Helen is the Moon is a name for all the services I offer: Tarot Readings, Astrology Readings, Life Coaching, and Graphic Designing. Most people are familiar with the name from my Tarot and Astrology Readings. What sets me apart in my readings is that I’m really adamant on the fact that I’m NOT a fortune teller. Honestly, I find it so disrespectful to the ancient craft of Tarot and Astrology when it gets categorized as that.

If you’re looking for me to tell you the time and date of the day you’ll meet your future husband, I’m not your girl. What you can expect in my readings are empowerment, breakthroughs, transformations, clarity, freedom of choice, and emotional peace.

They’ve frequently been related to as a therapy session. I’m most proud of Helen is the Moon’s integrity, authenticity, and honesty.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’ve only lived in large cities and haven’t lived in many, but I’d say Los Angeles is such a beautiful city for the business I do. There are endless amounts of communities, businesses, and people that are interested in the services that I offer. Since Los Angeles is pretty open to the New Age stuff, I think it certainly helps that my business connects with that. It took a couple years to get grounded in this city, but once I found a crew I could trust, everything moved really smoothly. That took about 3 years. I’d say the downside to Los Angeles is that it’s pretty expensive to live here. Regardless, I’d certainly encourage someone to start their business out here from the ground up. This is only if this was where they really wanted to be based out of. Otherwise, I would assume you’d be starting from the ground up again if you had a flourishing business elsewhere and tried to integrate it here.
