Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Garcia.
Heidi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love for photography started ten years ago. I took a black and white film photography course and soon after became a dark room monitor. I fell in love with the entire process of developing film and watching the print develop in the fixer.
I continued taking a bunch of photography courses in college and years ago I decided to turn it into a business. Presently, I mainly shoot digital because of ease and quality. I love storytelling and capturing memories.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Choosing to be a freelance photographer has not been a smooth road. One of the more challenging parts of being a professional photographer is the business side of it. There’s so much more to it than taking photos.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I consider myself to be a full spectrum photographer. I photograph all occasions involving people.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with clients and how I make one feel in front of the camera. I have calm energy, and I want people to not only feel comfortable but have fun and look good in the process.
I’m also a birth worker, so I want to empower families throughout their journeys into parenthood, also documenting their experience as a photographer/videographer.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue growing and helping others. My ultimate goal is to empower people.
