Meet Heather Silva of We Move Vintage in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Silva.

Heather, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my business in 2009, because of my love for vintage and fashion. I have an extensive background in the fashion industry, and I have been collecting vintage for years. The idea to start a Vintage retail business came about when I found myself constantly turning to vintage for style inspiration. I was tired of seeing the same old style in stores, so I decided to open my own shop with my curated selection of vintage.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever easy. Especially owning your own business. I started off doing my business part-time while I was working for my parent’s clothing manufacturing business. It was a constant balance between both jobs, and I always felt overwhelmed.

I also had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. I knew what I liked and what I wanted to sell, but I had limited experience with business management and finance.

Exposure was also another thing that I struggled with. There are so many great vintage shops online and who have established brick and mortars. I felt like being seen was the hardest part of running my business.

I slowly became acquainted with fashion bloggers, Instagram, and fellow vintage vendors in order to network my business. It was through those channels that I was able to meet new customers and friends. I eventually was able to make my business a full-time gig, and I am so thankful for every minute of it!

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I sell vintage clothing and accessories. I sell online as well as monthly flea markets and vintage shows. I specialize in designer, minimal, and fashion-forward pieces.

I sell my pieces to stylists, fashion designers, and people who just want to express themselves with great vintage finds. I have years of experience in the fashion industry and am constantly traveling to source the best vintage.

My collection is a direct reflection of my personal style and how I mix different eras and styles. I seek out pieces that are well made and unique. I am always trying to find my customers items that they will love and cherish.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My parents were introducing me to the music of the 70’s and 80’s while I was growing up. Once I discovered music I was never the same. It was a constant source of inspiration, and it helped me shape my personal sense of style.
