Meet Harry Lee of CitrusBits in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Lee.

Harry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our agency was formed in 2005 with just two employees, and our founding vision was to make it easy for businesses to have impactful websites.

Naturally, when the iPhone and other smartphones came to prominence around 2007/2008, that really caught our attention. There was an obvious demand among consumers for well-designed mobile apps, but many of those early apps seemed to be poorly designed/developed. This opportunity compelled us to pivot into mobile app development, and we began to develop iOS and Android mobile apps for businesses. Our company has since expanded its capabilities to include backend services such as REST API development, database services, emerging tech like VR, and most recently – enterprise app development.

We’re proud of where we are today, which is a trusted mobile app development partner for businesses of all sizes, including Burger King, Quiksilver, National Geographic, and Sotheby’s, to name a few that your readers will recognize. Today, our business has operations in 5 countries, with a passionate team of more than fifty employees worldwide. We’ve definitely come a long way over the past 12 years.

Has it been a smooth road?
The market for mobile apps has exploded in recent years due to the massive rise of affordable smartphones. Consider that smartphone ownership among U.S. adults rose from just 35% in 2011 to 77% in 2017 (Pew Research).

While market expansion in mobile app development is great to see, we’ve also seen a massive influx of new entrants into the mobile app development market. Many of these are just app developers, not agencies, and are not able to provide high quality UI/UX design, digital strategy, or proven development processes – all of which are critical components for any app project.

So, there is a continual challenge for us to grow awareness about why businesses with mission-critical mobile app projects need to go with a top mobile app development agency like CitrusBits. As many of our clients who first tried to go-it-alone or used consultants before working with CitrusBits will tell you: the proof is in the ROI.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the CitrusBits story. Tell us more about the business.
CitrusBits is a mobile app development agency. That means we help businesses transform their mobile aspirations from concept into reality. Our passionate team, rigorous processes, and deep expertise across all mobile platforms have helped well-known Fortune 500 companies and savvy startups alike quickly seize market opportunities.

While there certainly are other mobile app companies out there, we believe CitrusBits stands apart by offering true end-to-end services — from digital strategy and UI/UX design to mobile app development and post-launch marketing and app maintenance. Offering the entire spectrum of services businesses require for their mobile app projects allows us to achieve true partnership with our clients. We’re deeply invested in each project’s success, which is why many of our apps have won industry awards and the vast majority have exceeded client expectations.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Currently, we see a lot of startups and enterprise companies wanting to build apps, either to be the next big thing or to improve productivity/efficiency, respectively.

In the next decade, we believe SMBs and large businesses will also go all-in on mobile strategies, as they learn from the successes of their peers and face increasing demand for mobile experiences from their customers and partners.
