Meet Harley Cortez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harley Cortez.

Harley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a painter, a visual artist. I am represented by Georges Bergès Gallery in NYC and Berlin.

I have spent most of my adult life as a career musician. A few years ago, I channeled my focus from part-time painter to full time. The shift in focus changed the nature of my work.

I still compose music and just finished my second short film, which was submitted to Cannes, called “The Sick Oyster”.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No trajectory is smooth. All roads worth taking will be jagged and a bit trying, but if the passion is there it will be a worthy journey.

My main struggles have been the usual, occasional financial struggles, uncertainty, and so on.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a visual artist. I create large scale and smaller works that I are in galleries in NYC, Berlin, Tokyo. My recent exhibitions can be seen in NYC, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. My works can be seen in hotels and institutions in Mexico, US, Japan, and Europe. I am also a filmmaker and musician. My instrumental, ambient, nu-classical called “an inventory of memory” will be released this year.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck plays such a big role in anything that happens in life. But then again, so does hard work. I mean hard fucking work.
