Meet Hao Yeh of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hao Yeh

Hi Hao, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Looking back, I can see that I’ve always had a unique spark for design and art. I remember when I was about ten years old, there was a book fair at my school. While my classmates were excited about buying storybooks and comics, I was captivated by a book about a hundred special door designs. I’m sure that book is still on the shelf at my childhood home. This early encounter with design set me on a path that has been both exciting and fulfilling.

My journey as a designer began with a deep fascination for graphic design. I immersed myself into typography, layout, and branding, which ignited my curiosity and drove me to explore the field further. Now, as a Creative Designer and Animator based in New York, I create 2D and 3D animations to help brands promote their products and build their brand identity. My work has evolved from designing print materials to crafting engaging animations for the screen. Along the way, I’ve been constantly learning new skills and discovering what truly excites me. My path is a continuous adventure in creativity, always pushing the limits of what’s possible.

While having a standout trait from a young age is a huge advantage, helping you know what you want and giving you a clear direction, my perspective on exploring new fields has broadened as I’ve grown. I recall my mom once suggesting that I learn to cook and maybe open my own restaurant someday, paying meticulous attention to every detail—from the visual and menu design to the food itself. At the time, I thought she was a bit off the mark since I was focused on becoming a designer. But now, I’m more open to exploring different possibilities. I’ve come to realize that every field has unique opportunities for leveraging one’s strengths and uncovering new talents. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll find myself not just designing but also running my own restaurant.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe that having a bit of passion for what you do is essential. Sometimes, reality can wear down that passion and bring about worries. To counteract this, I try to fill those gaps outside of work. Sometimes I create short animations that capture my experiences and memories. These animations reflect my true thoughts and are entirely my own, free from outside influence, and presented exactly how I like.

Investing in yourself is always worthwhile. Learning new skills and trusting that you can apply them in the future helps you gradually move closer to the life you aspire to live. I’ve found that setbacks often provide the greatest growth and lead to meaningful change. So, love yourself a little more and believe in your ability to achieve your goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in motion design, 2D and 3D animation, bringing to life commercials, product promotions, and brand identity. My mission is to infuse every project with great design quality and create a positive impression. I’ve had the privilege of working with numerous major brands to build their unique identities, translating abstract concepts into tangible visuals. This can be more challenging than promoting physical products because it involves crafting a brand’s essence into something visually striking. My experience as a graphic designer gives me a significant edge. It allows me to meticulously adjust the hierarchy and visual flow in my animations, ensuring that each frame is a complete and compelling visual in its own right.

Photography, my other passion, has been a fantastic way to connect with new people and build relationships. I sometimes take professional photos for design magazines and film live performances. It has not only immersed me in a variety of creative environments but has also cultivated my keen observational skills.

What matters most to you? Why?
Staying curious is what keeps life exciting for me. Whether it’s taking a different route home, grabbing an unfamiliar food at the supermarket, or venturing to a new destination, I thrive on the unexpected. Along the way, I’ve met amazing people and had authentic experiences that I wouldn’t have found otherwise. These spontaneous choices constantly enrich my life and fuel my creativity.
