Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Eggen and Gianluca Gibbons.
Hannah and Gianluca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Gianluca Gibbons: I started the band in 2010 with some college friends. The name HEЯITAGE came from the realization that there were an array of cultures represented in the band, (Bermudian, Jamaican, Polynesian, American, and Mexican). In the summer of 2015, we did our first international tour in Bermuda, which featured the sensational singer/songwriter HannaH Eggen. After a successful summer tour, we invited HannaH to join us again for a Southern California 2016 Winter Tour. It was during this tour that true love was confessed. HannaH stayed in California and became a permanent force in HEЯITAGE.
At the close of the 2016 Winter Tour, we continued to make changes, and took a two-year hiatus from touring, and focused on creating and developing our sound. While in the music lab, we’ve conjured up some highly infectious sonic elements that are geared up to infiltrate the world’s sound waves. HEЯITAGE has grown into a soul/pop outfit that features Bermudian pair, Gianluca Gibbons and Hannah Eggen. Staying true to the origins of the band’s name, we blend the sonic styles we’ve experienced from all over the world, including island rhythms, Latin grooves, hip hop pocket, all wrapped up in a soul/pop package.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hannah: It’s been quite a journey thus far, but we are grateful. It’s never easy to balance work and pursuing your dreams, you tend to end up sleepless and overworked. And for us, you can throw in homeless couch surfers as well. At one point Gianluca was in an unpaid internship living in LA, but somehow never hit rock bottom.
Gianluca: While juggling 9-5 jobs and couch surfing, we still managed to find time and energy for the band from about 6 pm till midnight. It wasn’t easy, but our love for the music makes it all worth it. In time, that dedication and perseverance started to pay off by the grace of God!
Please tell us about HEЯITAGE.
Gianluca: HEЯITAGE is a Soul/Pop Outfit, that features Gianluca Gibbons and Hannah Eggen. We are known for our dynamic stage presence, musicianship, and unique vocals. We are most proud of our album “The Color Blue”, we’ll keep you posted on the release date! It’s currently in the last stages of mix and mastering. Hannah: Being from Bermuda already makes us pretty rare lol. In addition, our musical approach has been heavily influenced by our diverse life experience, having lived and traveled around the world. The music comes from an authentic place of searching ourselves to bring out what’s deep inside of us.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Gianluca: If something had to change, it would be the way I dealt internally with all the emotions that come with the grind. Outside of that, we did our best and continue to do so. A purpose driven life comes with sincere intention, and that’s what we strive for, waking up every morning and exploring new opportunities with a mindset for success.
Hannah: Yes, I have to agree with Gianluca on that. The fight truly comes from your mindset throughout the tough times and the grind. When you are living a purpose driven life, a lot of sacrifices have to be made to make it. If I could go back, I’d take my lessons learned with me and do it all again with the growth I’ve made thus far.
