Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Bolt.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When I was growing up I was always one of those kids that had a new dream every week. I jumped back and forth between hobbies until about 14 when I discovered makeup. I would spend hours watching tutorials, stalking the Sephora website and spending every penny I had on whatever makeup I could get my hands on. I was hooked. Makeup became all consuming to me. I would spend hours putting on different looks and begging my friends to do their makeup. Discovering makeup transformed me in more ways than one. It gave me a confidence I had never had before. As the years I went on I began to realize that this didn’t just have to be a hobby, it could be my career. I decided to take a leap and go to a makeup school in Dallas, Texas. I completed a six month program in 2018 and after graduating I knew it was time to start networking. I reached out to countless people. Salons, photographers, makeup counters I would take anything and slowly but surely I got responses. I began working as the in house makeup artist at a salon, working with a photographer, and booking countless weddings. I began assisting the incredible Laura Schakosky on several shoots and began to fall in love with seeing makeup I did on screen, in print, and under the bright lights. I knew I needed to do more. And I knew that meant moving. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in celebrity and film makeup. Since being here I have contacted agencies, photographers, and so much more. I know my hard work will pay off here just as it did in Dallas.
Please tell us about your art.
The best way to describe my style is that I like to create the best version of someone. I am here to enhance the already beautiful features of the client’s faces not cover them up. I am obsessed with creating the perfect complexion that has a healthy skin glow to it. I want people to leave my chair not only looking but feeling their absolute best. I’m here to help them realize how beautiful and powerful they already are with a little help from makeup.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I feel that as an artist it’s so easy to isolate yourself. To feel secluded and alone but if you surround yourself with uplifting, driven people I promise you those feelings will fade. As artists finding your community is so important. I’m lucky enough to have several friends in this industry and I like to think my clients see me as a friend as well. As a makeup artist, our work is extremely intimate and I find it so important to click with your clients and find joy in working with them.
