Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Navarro
Hi Haley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My hairstyling career started with a little nudge from my mom. During my senior year of high school, she encouraged me to go to cosmetology school, and honestly, I’m so glad she did. I’ve always been creative and love learning how to make and create things. This industry is perfect for me because it’s always changing—and fast—which keeps my creative brain constantly engaged and inspired.
I believe everyone is beautiful just as they are, and I truly think we all look best when embracing our natural hair. But at the end of the day, my goal is to help my clients feel their best. Whether that means enhancing what they already have or trying something totally different, it’s all about what makes them happy and confident.
Early on in my career, I went through a two-year intensive training program at Sassoon Salon, and it was a total game-changer. It taught me the importance of precision and a solid foundation, which is now at the heart of everything I do. I pay close attention to hair growth patterns, density, and head shape so that every cut, color, or extension I do is personalized for each client.
Looking ahead, I’m all about continuing to learn and grow. I love bringing new techniques and ideas to my clients so they never feel stuck or bored with their hair. My goal is to keep blending creativity with practicality—to help my clients look and feel amazing in ways that make their lives easier.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest challenges has been the physical demands of being a hairstylist. I started dealing with tendonitis when I was 23, and it’s been a blessing and a curse. It usually flares up when I’m out of alignment—when I’m overworked, burned out, or not holding firm boundaries. It’s my body’s way of reminding me to slow down and take care of myself. As frustrating as it can be, I’m grateful for those reminders because they help me reset and show up better for my clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating low-maintenance styles because, honestly, I’m a pretty low-maintenance person myself. I always tell my clients that I’ll never ask them to do anything I wouldn’t do. It’s all about putting in the work in the salon to create a strong foundation so their hair is easy to wear and style every day.
What sets me apart is my honesty and the way I truly listen to my clients. I take the time to understand their struggles and work with them to create a plan that works for their personality, lifestyle, and overall look. If I don’t think something will suit them, I don’t just say no—I take the time to explain why and offer better solutions. My goal is to make sure every client feels confident and supported, knowing they’re in good hands.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Find someone whose style you admire. There’s no one “right way” to do things in this industry, so connect with someone who inspires you and learn from them. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or, if possible, shadow them to see how they work.
And don’t shy away from making mistakes—they’re an essential part of learning. Some of my best mentors purposely let me make mistakes so I could figure out how to fix them. A fellow stylist once told me, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not learning,” and that has always stuck with me.
