Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Fuchs.
Haley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a 22-year-old singer, songwriter, and musician. For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with music. I love music so much I could live in it. I have been singing for my entire life; my very first performance taking place when I was only six years old. I began writing my own songs by the age of nine, performing regularly by the age of ten, and composing my own music by the age of 17. I have been posting videos of myself singing online for 12 years and I have auditioned in numerous cities and states for televised singing competitions for the past seven years. Some of my most notable accomplishments in music include singing at the LA County Fair, performing for two consecutive years at my former university’s (Southern Methodist University) annual Christmas ceremony in front of a multi-thousand audience, and attracting nearly 300,000 views on my YouTube channel.
I have dedicated my life to making a name for myself in the music industry, endlessly motivated and confidently assured that I could do this. I am currently working alongside Jason Mater, who is an incredibly accomplished producer to put together an EP. EP stands for “Extended Play,” which is essentially a few songs put together to create a “mini album. ” Working with a talented individual such as Jason has been nothing short of a dream come true. With his help, I will record 4-5 songs for an EP at a brilliant studio in Los Angeles. It means everything to me that he is willing to dedicate himself in the same capacity to bring my music to life. My goal is to release my entire EP by October 30th, which will be my 23rd birthday.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working on my music has most definitely not been a smooth road, and I have encountered several struggles along the way. Anyone in the entertainment industry knows how difficult it can be to get your work recognized by the masses. We are used to being told “no” or “not right now”, in hopes that maybe one day we’ll receive that big break we’ve been waiting for. I auditioned for my first televised singing show, The X Factor, in 2013 at the age of 15. I did not make it past the initial round of auditions and was given a “no” by the judges I auditioned for. I was absolutely devastated and couldn’t believe that something I had waited my entire life to do was ripped away from me so quickly. I was told no once again in 2014 when I auditioned for American Idol at the age of 16. After that, I took a couple of years off from auditioning after feeling hopeless and incapable of making it any further in the audition process. After allowing myself a few years to grow, I auditioned for American Idol several times in 2018, between the ages of 20-21.
With each audition that year, I made it further and further along in the audition process and progressed further than I ever had before. I never made it to the celebrity judges and my auditions were never televised, but I received some wonderful feedback along the way that has helped me grow in ways I never would have imagined. I ended up deciding that singing shows were not the route I wanted to take with my music after all, but I will forever appreciate the experience and friends I gained from those auditions. Since then, I have had a lot of good luck with my music, but I still continue to encounter my fair share of bumps in the road. Through these uphill battles, I have learned that my passion for music goes far beyond any form of rejection I’ve ever experienced. My love for what I do will never waver and that is what keeps me going.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer, songwriter, and musician. I have been playing piano for 12 years, and I decided to pick up the guitar a few months ago to expand my repertoire. When it comes to my music, my singing has always come first and that is what I am most known for among family, friends, and those who stumble across my music on the internet. I am often recognized for my soft, raspy voice, which many have compared to Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish. I am unbelievably flattered by these comparisons, as Lana and Billie are two of my main inspirations. Amid all of my musical accomplishments, I am most proud of my songwriting, which I believe is what sets me apart from other musicians.
I started writing songs 13 years ago and, since then, I have consistently grown as a lyricist. I have never been afraid to write loud and clear about my personal life, whether that be about being in love, being heartbroken, and everything in between. I am constantly motivated to continue writing truthfully by those who reach out to me and tell me how much my music means to them. Nothing in the world means more to me than putting out music I am proud of, that others are able to connect with on such a personal level. Music is a universal language and it will forever be my favorite way to communicate with the world around me.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
I know it sounds cliché, but I don’t wish to change anything about the path my life has led me down thus far. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason and that I would not be where I am today without everything I have gone through. I would willingly accept every accomplishment and every rejection time and time again in order to be who it is, I’m meant to be. Every accomplishment has helped me grow in confidence, and every rejection has helped me learn different ways to better myself. If not for these experiences, I don’t believe my life would be even remotely similar to what it is right now. Everything is so delicately interconnected, and I know that one different event in my life could mean losing everything I have worked so hard for. That being said, I could not be any happier with where I’m at right now. I trust in the universe’s timing, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for me and my music in the future.
