Today we’d like to introduce you to Eartha Robinson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eartha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from NYC, I trained in Dance and Acting at the High School of Performing Arts. I started my training at 14 years old and became a professional Dancer on Broadway at the age of 16. I continued to train and work with some very famous and notable Choreographers and Directors of Stage, Film & TV. After performing on Broadway, I was asked to join the cast of FAME the TV series in Los Angeles. I have done scores of Award shows, TV series, blockbuster Films, worked with some of the biggest Artist, Directors & Producers in the entertainment industry. Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Bassett, Denzil Washington, Debbie Allen, Alvin Ailey, Spike Lee, Norman Jewison, Wes Craven, Gary Marshall, Bill Duke, George Faison, Earth, Wind & Fire, Beyonce, Lauren Hill, Jill Scott, this list is just to name a few of the people I have been Blessed to have worked closely with as Choreographer, Producer, Creative Director & Director in some capacity.
I have always given back to the young people, as our youth are a passion of mine – I genuinely believe they hold the key to our future. I started this current program from this passion, from this Love of Dance, Acting & Singing – this is the Art of Universal language, this is what feeds the soul and increases Love and Compassion in the H.E.ARTS of others.
The Arts has saved innumerable lives and will continue to blossom in the future if we share it, give what we know to those who can’t get it or want it but need access to it. I love sharing my knowledge and I’m constantly rewarded by learning from each child I teach or mentor. THE H.E.ART (The Heartfelt Education through the ARTS Inc.) are here to lovingly share the Art of Acting, Singing & Dancing through old school teaching, tough love & discipline, imagination, and self-expression. The H.E.ART is a safe place for children of all ages to experience the Art of Stagecraft in a healthy, H.E.ART-felt environment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, it has been three years and we have experienced our ups and downs with commitment, attendance, funding, volunteers, administrative support – our project is not without its challenges and the quest to find help is on-going.
The results are always wonderful at the end of the programmed weeks when we present the students to their friends and families who see the work the child has put in. The results are always gratifying and it makes any ongoing challenges seem like they never existed…until the next program starts again and the challenges re-present themselves anew!
Funding for this program would really make all the difference in the world to so many children. A smooth road is what we are working towards, a home, a space, support to be able to serve many more students who would benefit from this amazing program.
Please tell us about The H.E.ART.
We offer a ‘Triple.Threat’ performing arts’ training program, where kids from 5 years to 18 years old who have experience on no experience at all, can come to use and participate in a unique, integrated approach. Dance/Movement, Acting and Vocal classes are taught in a disciplined-yet-fun environment. The emphasis is on performing arts but the results are life-lessons that our Students can apply to their Schools, their social circles, future work environments, etc., where a sense of self and the confidence to interact with others benefit their lives immeasurably.
Our Principle teaching Staff are unique in their collective experience in the industry, one of which won a Daytime Emmy in both 2018 and 2019! We are all fully committed to immersing our Students in the Arts, particularly as we know our Schools have ceased to be funded for such programs to the detriment of a balanced education. We are proud that we have developed an integral approach to the three disciplines and under one roof – we feel all these disciplines are inter-related… it’s all Stagecraft!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’m GULLAH, from the Islands of the South Carolina Coast. My favorite childhood memories are going to visit my family on the Islands. I remember childhood games, fishing, and fish fry, I remember the sun on my skin and the birds singing ever so clearly, I remember the smell of fresh flowers and hearing the Roosters crow in the early mornings. I loved dancing down the road with my Grandma or helping my Papa mend his fishing net, I remember picking my own vegetables and fruit and Watermelon was my favorite, my Ultimate favorite, its hard to find those kinds of watermelon any more, the one with seeds are very hard to come by even on the Islands these days. I loved traveling down south with my family, love the feeling of being free to dance out in the open and fearless, these are my favorite childhood memories, I keep them in my Heart always.
