Meet Gretty Hasson of MyBlow LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gretty Hasson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gretty. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2010, my mom saw a salon that only offered blowouts. There weren’t many other blow-dry bars around at the time and she instantly thought, “Wow, this would be a fantastic business concept.” She called me immediately and asked me if I wanted to open one up.

Later that day I started researching locations. I did my homework and I spent a lot of time writing down salon names to try to find something fun and catchy that brought people in. I had no idea how it’d turn out and I knew it’d be a risk, but I went for it anyways. Two months later, on July 1, 2010, I opened the doors to the first MyBlow LA salon in Beverly Hills, California. Later in November 2012, I opened my second MyBlow LA salon in Irvine, California.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I opened the first MyBlow LA store, I was taking a huge risk. I was very busy working full-time in the music industry and at the same time, I was working towards getting my MBA. On top of being super busy, I didn’t have any experience of owning a business. It was my first time being the sole owner and decision maker in every aspect of something from determining which products to carry to picking out the fixtures that were installed. I didn’t have the luxury of asking someone for advice because I was the one in charge of making the calls.

I learned as I went and eventually started to get the hang of things. I listened to my clients and my staff and paid attention to their needs. Through listening to their needs, I’ve made a lot of positive adjustments that have benefited the business. Although I’ll always be improving, I’ve come a long way and am super confident about who I am as a business owner today.

Please tell us about MyBlow LA.
At MyBlow LA, we specialize in blow-drying and styling hair. All the stylists are seasoned hair-dressers with years of experience. Not only do they know how to expertly style hair, but they’re also personable and have great customer service skills. They understand how to cater to the client’s needs and give them the comfortable, relaxing experience they’re craving. If the client wants to have a conversation, we do just that. If the client wants to be left alone, we’re happy to work silently. Through this business model, we’ve developed an extremely loyal customer base. I have clients who have been coming to the salon weekly since the day we opened in 2010.

I’m very proud of the work environment at MyBlow LA. I want my stylists to enjoy coming in to work every day, so I put a lot of emphasis on teamwork and facilitating a positive work experience. I have a wonderful relationship with all my staff and I try to be there for them when they need a friend or guidance. A lot of my staff have been here since the beginning, or come back to work with me, and I think that’s a testament to our excellent work environment.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly don’t think I would have done anything differently. Every experience has made me grow as an owner and a boss. I have learned through trial and error and I am very happy with how things turned out and where we are today.
