Meet Gregory Ohanian of GO Orthodontics in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Ohanian.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gregory. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Pasadena and have been lucky enough to experience all the wonderful things the Rose City has to offer. From an early age, I knew I wanted to open my own orthodontic office. When I was a kid, my dad would tell me stories about his past, and the one story that stuck with me encouraged me to pursue a career in dentistry. Long story short, before my father immigrated to this country, it was my grandfather’s dream for my dad to be a dentist. Because my dad came to this country and had to quickly learn the language to support himself and send money back home, he wasn’t able to pursue the career his father had envisioned for him. At a young age, I had made it a goal of mine to fulfill my grandfather’s dream for my father. I set my eyes on becoming a dentist and owning my own office.

A couple of years later, my sister and I went to the dentist, where we learned that due to an impacted canine, she would need orthodontic treatment. She was referred to an orthodontist, and her treatment took just about two years. Seeing my sister transform from a shy girl to a social butterfly further solidified my career goal and opened my eyes to the field of orthodontics.

I attended Maranatha High School and went on to earn a degree in biological sciences at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). After college, I attended dental school at the University of Southern California, and was lucky enough to be chosen to complete my orthodontic residency program at Columbia University in New York City. I am proud and honored to be the only Ivy League trained and Board Certified Orthodontist in Pasadena.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. I was always told that starting a healthcare office from scratch would be rewarding yet extremely difficult. Typically, upon completion of orthodontic residency, most new orthodontists will associate or partner with an existing doctor, and eventually purchase the office. The well-established office comes with the perks of an existing patient base, trained staff, efficient systems, equipment, etc. Starting a practice from scratch means you start from zero! Everything from marketing, to supplies, to hiring, to building out the actual office are tasks you must take on and do yourself. Although you have gone through rigorous schooling for years and training to be the best orthodontist you can be, you have had no training or practice on the foundations of running a business.

All this, combined with having to go through the actual build out of an office, made things extremely difficult. Looking back, after having gone through it all, I can confidently say that I wouldn’t have done it any other way. I love my office, my staff, my referring doctors, and the fact that my office is located in my hometown near friends and family.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with GO Orthodontics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Unlike your general dentist, we specialize in orthodontics and offer treatments through conventional braces and aligner therapy. Straightening teeth, creating healthy bites, and transforming smiles, that’s all we do!

Many offices have multiple locations and/or multiple doctors, which can mean that the orthodontist whom you start your case with may not be the same orthodontist who finishes your treatment, or even the doctor you see at every visit. The differing philosophies between doctors can translate into extended treatment times and compromised results for patients. Likewise, a single doctor with multiple practices may result in the doctor’s focus being placed on managing his or her various practices rather than where it should be, which is you and your smile. We have one doctor, one location, and one focus: you!

I was drawn to the field of orthodontics through my passion for instilling confidence in others by transforming smiles. I believe everyone deserves a beautiful and healthy smile, and that it is one of the best investments you can make for yourself. To help provide the opportunity for as many people as possible, I have helped break down one of the largest barriers to orthodontics by building my practice around a key principle: affordability. We strive to help make braces affordable and accessible to all our patients, and do so with interest free financing, low monthly payments, and no credit checks. We continue our cost-conscious efforts by designing our payment offerings with our patients in mind, providing several options that will best fit their needs. We also offer a complimentary smile assessment to help our patients jump start their journey towards a radiating smile.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to establishing myself as the go-to orthodontist in Pasadena and its neighboring communities.

Pricing:

  • We offer many flexible financing options to fit anyone’s budget. We understand the price of healthcare is through the roof these days, but because we love our community and because we want to see everyone have beautiful, confident smiles, we are offering payment plans as low as $99/month for orthodontic treatment.
