Meet Gregory Bell of The Barber Truck Company in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Bell.

Gregory, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea for The Barber Truck was conceived after a series of painful haircut experiences while living and working in San Francisco, trying to book – every other week – an appointment with a sought-after barber at a sought-after barbershop. Each experience became increasingly stressful and time-consuming, having to work around my barber’s schedule, waiting in traffic and taking valuable time away from work. What once was a relaxing and welcomed escape was now something I would dread.

There was an ah-ha moment after one particular haircut took 3 hours round trip away from work and I returned to the office, very frustrated, to find a beautifully designed mobile dentist office called Studio Dental sitting in front of the building. I imagined in a similar fashion a mobile barbershop, where the same quality service, design and skillful barber would conveniently come to you at your place of work, on a consistent schedule, allowing an opportunity for self-care amidst the grind minus the stress.

Has it been a smooth road?
Opening a self-care business for the first time amidst a pandemic has proved a bumpy ride! Originally meant to service office buildings on a rotating schedule, along with private events, weddings and festivals -we were forced to pivot when the COVID-19 pandemic shut the world down; offices were closed, events & festivals canceled.
When salons & barbershops were given the greenlight to re-open, we first partnered with Employees Only cocktail bar in West Hollywood to bring patrons and the community two things people had been craving the most over quarantine, a cocktail and a haircut! After the second shutdown, we were forced to innovate and move our services exclusively outdoors for a period of time in order to create a safer open-air service and keep the doors open!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Barber Truck (TBT) is LA’s first upscale mobile barbershop with services for all humans to enjoy. Designed by award-winning creatives including celebrity designer Tiffany Howell (Nightpalm Studio), celebrity stylist Jason Schneidman (The Men’s Groomer) and two hospitality executives from Viceroy Hotel Group. TBT features three high-end barber chairs indoors and the option of outdoor service on our open-air private patio. We are currently operating as a pop-up through the end of the year at the socially-safe experience, Summer Social Club at Employees Only 7days/ week for all your grooming needs. Our expert team of barbers and stylists are great at what they do and have you covered no matter what hairstyle or texture.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, we feel Los Angeles is a wonderful city to start a business in, after receiving such a warm welcome and positive reception from the West Hollywood community we’ve been encouraged to always put our best foot forward and continue to improve our services, innovate & grow.
