Meet Greg Tate of Daygo Dawgs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Tate.

Greg, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Abbeville, South Carolina. I joined the Navy, was stationed in San Diego, and decided to stay and was presented with the opportunity to coach high school football. I started in 2018 and have been dedicated to pushing it and helping as many kids with their future, whether it be in football or outside of football.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been smooth for the most part; the hardest part was just getting a foot in the door. After that, it’s pretty much just been networking and staying focused on what the goal is.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Daygo Dawgs – what should we know?
Well, my time is split between the high school team I coach for and the club 7v7 team (Daygo Dawgs), that I also coach for. I handle coaching the linebackers as well as the overall defense, as well as special teams (for Mission Bay). I also try to be as hands-on as possible when it comes to player’s recruitment and helping colleges get eyes on them. I think what I’m most proud of is just seeing the work pay off for the kids early on. What sets us apart is that we’re family-oriented, we don’t view players as a commodity, everything we do is built on love and respect for each player and coach first. What you can do on a football field comes second.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think just the work ethic, as well as being personable and a self-starter. I’m always open to constructive criticism as well as being a sponge and learn from people that have come before me.
