Meet Greer Wylder of Greer’s OC in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greer Wylder.

Greer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Greer’s OC, a website and daily email tip sheet called the Daily Dose of OC focusing on the best in fashion, dining, trends, and events in 2006. It was right after I was let go as a columnist at the LA Times Community News and after one of my four sons was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. I had a large following from my column already so right off the bat; I had a built-in audience. I wanted to help raise awareness for Type One Diabetes, so I promote as much as I can diabetes-related events and other important causes in Orange County.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve never owned a business before launching Greer’s OC, and I’ve never sold anything, either. So, there was a lot of overspending costs to launch the business, and then the recession hit in 2008. That was hard since we had just built a real estate section that every advertiser pulled out of overnight. Trusting people has always been an issue as well. I’ve learned the hard way that even people you know for a long time can be very disappointing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Greer’s OC – what should we know?
Right now, I’m running two businesses. Greer’s OC is an online lifestyle publication that’s ideal for people who want to know the latest and greatest happenings in Orange County. I never write anything negative and only feature things that I like. Since I’ve done social media for my own company for so long and I love it, I started offering social media marketing to small businesses and nonprofits nearly two years ago. I’m proud that I’ve been in business for 12 years and that I’m doing everything myself. I was one of the first, if not the first in Orange County to start a lifestyle blog. I don’t have a team. With my social media marketing. I want my clients to prosper and grow. I’m passionate about what each one does, and I’m offering them PR as well.

What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
I grew up in Newport Beach in the ’70s when it was a laid-back beach town. Riding bikes everywhere, going to the beach every day and not having any cares in the world was a magical time. I went to Newport Elementary, a school on the beach, which was about as good as it gets. By the time I got to high school, I would rather do almost anything else than go to school, so ditching class to ride horses on the beach in Laguna with my best friend was also a great memory.

Greer is one of the most authentic and inspiring women in OC. She is a great writer, a incredible and dedicated mother, and a one-of-a-kind friend. Her passion for the cause most near and dear to her heart is immeasurable, yet she still takes the time to help others. She is also a great business partner, and I find her offerings to be an important part of my strategic marketing plans.
