Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Tamayo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Grace. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been into health and fitness. I became a personal trainer years ago and a level three certified spinning instructor. In LA like many people, I juggle many things, including acting, working as an American Sign Language Interpretor and being a full-time single mom living on our own here. I finally had graduated from a long grueling process putting myself through school as a single mom as well. During Christmas break we had some downtime. After years of doing workouts on YouTube I finally thought, hey maybe I’ll give this a try. So I began shooting my own videos, training again, started teaching at LA Fitness and then had our very first fit expo in the park near our house. This ended up leading me to my business Beautycounter which I became a makeup and skincare consultant for healthy safer beauty. This company is based and born out of Santa Monica. All things health started being implemented into my business for a well rounded healthy lifestyle. It’s been a little over a year now since we started Healthy Human Fitness and we love it! My girl is my editor or my videographer at times. She’s my feedback my collaborator. We have our little YouTube channel that’s like the train that could. We launched our fitness mini G-Fit bands that are available on amazon now! It’s been fun and in LA we are able to create how and when we want without waiting for the opportunity. We’ve been able to take the opportunity and all while helping and inspiring others. It’s the best. Now we’re just working on building what we’ve began and making it great!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t know if anything in my life has ever gone smoothly. My very first video is hilarious. I think what is important is to enjoy the process without becoming frustrated. It’s as smoothly as I want my attitude and perspective to be as long as I work to stay positive and productive. If I can be more patient, enjoy the process and look where there’s been improvement for my basis and not how many followers I have or how much money I’m making. Then I can evaluate and go back to my “Why.” I don’t think anyone knows the work that goes into the planning preparing creating and then all the technical difficulties i.e. editing. There’s a lot to navigate so it takes time. It’s trial and error and we delved in deep and fast last year. It was great, but this year I am focusing on slowing down and having quality over quantity.
Healthy Human Fitness – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
That word “authentic,” I think is overused here in LA. Maybe closely to organic 😂 but… it’s true. What sets us apart is that it’s about being ourselves. Doing what we think comes from us, from our hearts. It takes a whole lot of vulnerability to put yourself out there and just go for it. At the same time, that’s what inspires people and what brings change. It is my goal to help and inspire women specifically and young girls. To empower them as well as encourage all women and especially our younger generations to freedom in what is true beauty and how to “age with Grace.” At the same time matching and complimenting with business norms that still have to be followed. This isn’t my first rodeo though, I’ve had a job since I was 12 and I’ve done a little bit of everything everywhere. We bring not only our life skills and experience but our background. The personal trials we’ve been through are really the silent and hidden backbone to everything we do.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have so many favorites from my childhood. Everyone has negative memories but it’s important to focus on the good and hold into it. Focus on that, ride that wave so to speak. I have so many from traveling the states with my family to just running around playing outside with the animals, growing up on a small farm, digging my feet into the dirt rotatilling until the sun went down. Reading and writing on the roof. Hiding and lying in the grass daydreaming. Those are still very fond memories of mine that I hope my children will have as well. Thank you mom and dad!
