Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Park.
Hi Grace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have a BFA in Illustration from ArtCenter College of Design, where I learned to focus on creating stories and evoking empathy. I like to make images that are relatable to others, and I often incorporate small details that enhance the piece.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were lots of struggles along the way. Although I never quit doing art, there were numerous times when I considered it, thinking that there are not much opportunities for illustrators in the real world. But as my profession is evolving, I am beginning to realize that art is essentially ubiquitous around us, and its value will never fade.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a freelance illustrator, I strive to tell stories that console people and bring warmth into their lives. I like to draw with pen and ink when working traditionally and digitally with Photoshop and Illustrator. My works are heavily line art-based, and I am much influenced by the fashion industry; the artists and designs from the field inspire me to create works that are sophisticated and intricate.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Some of the resources that help me gather ideas are Behance, Pinterest and Instagram. There are countless illustrators on these platforms that help me figure out different genres in art. Correspondingly, they help to broaden my perspective in the field of illustration.
