Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginger Damon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Almost 5 years ago, I fell in love with motorcycles. What I didn’t love were my choices as a female rider. I felt like I looked like the guys I rode with. We all looked the same! I wanted my own identity. My own personal fashion statement with protective sensibility. I noticed more and more women were beginning to ride with the same desire to look feminine! There is nothing more powerful than feeling good about yourself and the sensation of riding your motorcycle. It is pure magic.
I researched and studied the motorcycle culture and learned that women have been riding since the beginning of time. Women rode motorize bikes in the 1900’s. Women raced, Women, rode cross country and the more I learned about the history of the motorcycle and the women who rode, the more inspired I became. I wanted to create a powerful female-driven brand that compliments female riders with a positive attitude. A feeling of I can do anything, be an anybody-a natural evolution of feminine beauty and accomplishment. Thus, Gigi Montrose Moto Couture was born to give women the image they have been looking for. To own their identity.
Motorcycles bring people together, I have painstakingly put time and effort into the creation and development of Gigi Montrose. I have searched the best materials and built the best relationships with the people I work with. I love every day of my life! I get to meet and work with the best people all over the world. People who love what they do, work hard and support each other. A community of tried and true professionals that inspire me, that’s what motorcycles do, they build communities.
Today, I collaborate with the very esteem-able DuPont (TM) for Kevlar (R). They understand my needs and provide me with the best abrasion resistant fabrics. They take pride in what they do and always work to assure me the quality is supreme. Tried and true with a solid professional reputation and always on the cutting edge, they provide me with the confidence of producing excellence. After all, we do deserve great! #funfact: Kevlar was developed by a woman! Stephanie Kwolak.
Right now I am developing new products with some new partnerships and collaborations in the making. It takes a long time but, I am always striving to be better.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall it’s been fairly good. The struggles have been finding the right people who share the same vision. What that really means is, I am creating something out of the norm and it takes brave individuals who see people breaking the mold and want to be a part of that. Its a risk for both but, when the relationship begins to take hold it becomes very powerful. I am dedicated and it takes a lot of time but, hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gigi Montrose Moto Couture story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the founder/CEO and Designer for Gigi Montrose Moto Couture. I curate the materials and designs. I pretty much do it all and what I don’t do I give that to those that do it the best! I travel to the motorcycle show all over the world! I am very grateful I got to launch in London at the Kickback show in Chelsea. I made some great friends there.
I am a sponsor at “The Quail Moto Gathering” in Carmel.
I have been in three issues of Vogue UK as a designer profiled. My story is in “Asphalt and Dirt” by Aaron Heinreich. A mention in “Chilli, Skulls and Tequila” by Zoe Cano. Gosh, there have been sooo many great events that have taken place and the people that have become my dear friends.
I am proud the results of my hard work are taking root.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Hmmm, I think for me it has been more of those moments when I am exhausted and the day has been daunting and it feels like my world is crashing, then a stranger will stop me (or in some instances chased me down) to ask me about my jacket.
That they LOVE the beauty and coolness of a female riding a motorcycle. sometimes I get to encourage women to ride or to appreciate their definition of female beauty. Also, the respect I get from men who appreciate the feminine beauty.
