Today we’d like to introduce you to Gigi Goldman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gigi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Five years ago, I was a stay-at-home mom to three little kids and I barely had any time to devote to my beauty routine. I kept it simple and natural and discovered coconut oil could be used to give me hydrated, glowy skin and glossy hair. Soon, I was chasing my kids around the house with this multitasking gem, curing everything from chapped lips to sunburned shoulders.
The more I used coconut oil, the more I realized that its beauty benefits were simply too good to ignore. I brought the idea to my husband, Bryce, who worked in the beauty business, and we got started sourcing and developing the purest coconut oil on the planet. We connected with our partners James Brennan and Kiana Cabell, fellow beauty and wellness enthusiasts, and (ta-da!) Kopari was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is anything but a smooth road! As a founder team, we experienced so many “firsts,” which has been exhilarating, exhausting, intense and incredible, all at the same time. While my husband has a plethora of beauty industry experience, none of us had developed a beauty brand from start to finish before. I think that fresh perspective gave us the ability to create something really unique and authentic because we didn’t have boundaries, but there was a lot to learn in a very short amount of time (i.e.everything from shipping logistics to raising money to managing the biggest retailers in the world). The other challenge we faced is how drastically the landscape is changing due to social and digital media. As a progressive, young company, we are always trying to stay ahead of the curve. There is no set road map, we are always paving new paths.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kopari Beauty story. Tell us more about the business.
Kopari is the first premium coconut oil-based beauty brand in the U.S. I founded Kopari in sunny San Diego in 2015 alongside my co-founders Kiana Cabell, my husband, Bryce Goldman, and James Brennan. Kopari makes better-for-you,coconut-based skin, beauty and personal care products. Kopari’s focus is on the quality of the ingredients that deliver a luxurious and efficacious experience to customers. To that end, Kopari’s small-batch coconuts come from small family farms in the Philippine Islands. They are hand-picked at peak quality and never exposed to extreme temperatures or interactive metals. The coconut oil is then incorporated with other innovative natural ingredients that enhance its benefits to create premium,better-for-you products.○I think the secret to our success is multifaceted. We developed a brand with a very distinct personality that is transportative.
Our hero ingredient, coconut, has been trending for the past few years and our products are clean – free of all of those bad-for-you ingredients. Most importantly, our products work! All of these components were part of our brand DNA at the onset of our journey and I think that is why consumers are connecting with Kopari and we stand out in a crowded space. Our community is key to our success and they have a strong voice when it comes to our products, content and strategy. We also have a strong omnichannel approach, a prevalent digital presence and availability in multiple retail channels, so consumers have easy access to our products.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our product pipeline is very robust in 2020. We will continue to build on our prestige body and skincare category because we have seen so much success to date and see vast potential for continued category extensions. We may have done a lot with coconut oil so far, but there is still so much untapped potential for this superfood, and we cant wait for you all to see what is next.
