Meet Geng Li

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geng Li.

Geng Li

Hi Geng, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an audio director, music composer, and sound designer mostly for video games. I have been working in the video game industry for the past six years. Some of my work includes The Dark World: Karma (2024), PUBG Mobile (2022-2023), Arena Breakout Season 1&2 (2022-2023), and A.D. 2047 (2021).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of the struggles that I have come from the business and administrative side. I am currently running an indie audio solution studio here in Los Angeles; sometimes, it is tough to communicate with a team that thinks very little about audio. What I mean by that is they view music and sound effect as not important parts of their project, so they are not willing to provide the necessary budget. It is difficult to explain why sound and music are essential in this interactive medium.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart from others is I can provide a full audio solution to a client, including music, sound effects, and also technical integration like using the audio middleware-Wwise. I have a studio outfitted in Dolby’s reference 7.1.4 layout through PMC monitors and a reference cinema processor. I am also part of the Wwise Ambassador program.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
There is a monthly live stream I really like called “Wwise Up On Air” hosted by Damian Kastbauer. He invites industrial professionals to share their work process, how they solve problems, and talk about the latest technology. It is a wonderful program, and I learned a lot from it.
