Meet Gavin Brodin of Brodin Design Build

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gavin Brodin.

Hi Gavin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My design career started when I was 17 working in a fabric store selling discounted designer fabrics in London. It continued to helping clients choose fabrics for their draperies and eventually into helping design their entire homes. I have since designed some of the largest homes in the US along with private airplanes and yachts.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Initially, I was blown away by the amount of organization it requires to start a business in terms of paperwork, accounting and keeping records. I learned how important it is to keep a record of everything — also of conversations with clients and sending them minutes of our meetings so everyone is on the same page.

We’ve been impressed with Brodin Design Build, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Brodin personally designs all elements of his residential and commercial projects, from architectural drawings, to interior designs and landscaping. Each of these elements are seamlessly designed and built with the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail resulting in unique spaces. The privacy and interests of his clients are highly valued and confidential. Some of the more notable projects able to be shared include the renovation and refurbishment of the 56,000 square foot Spelling Manor in Beverly Hills, California; the 55 room Palace Green mansion in London, England; The Crown Bar in Los Angeles, California; and The Rolling Stone restaurant also in Los Angeles. His celebrity clients include Rod Stewart, Sylvester Stallone, and Kate Beckinsale, to name a few.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Reach out to the people or firms that inspire you. Ensure your introduction is short and personalized to ensure people read and are more likely to respond. If you do get a chance to work mentor under someone. Ensure you are available and work hard and ask for constructive criticism.
