

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Terzyan.
Gary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Pasadena, we were a family of five. Mom, Dad and 2 younger brothers. Our immediate neighborhood was a questionable part of town. My mother worked in the medical field and my father was in construction. During high school’s summer breaks, our parents would keep us occupied. They enrolled us in sports, summer school programs and even helping dad with construction. One of mom and dad’s goals was for us to avoid boredom while they were out working. During summer breaks, we would help dad at the construction sites with projects such as painting, landscaping, installing tile and wood floors. With continued hands-on involvement with properties, I and my brothers were drawn into Real Estate. During my initial research of the industry, it was evident that Real Estate Appraisals was an ideal fit. At the age of 21, I decided to enroll in appraisal school. I was fortunate to meet three seasoned appraisers while completing the live courses. Soon thereafter, I began training with my mentors and preparing for the state examination. Fast forward 4 years, my private appraisal practice was ready for the Real Estate industry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Shortly after launching my private practice, the 2007 / 2008 Real Estate crash was unfolding. Uncertainty for the industry was at an all-time high. Real Estate prices were in free fall, strict lender / appraiser regulations were developing and decades old way of conducting business was evaporating. Prior to this challenging period, my appraisal practice was entirely geared towards large institutions. Due to the lack of diversification, our practice was nearly decimated. With new regulatory changes, it was difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thousands of licensed appraisers were leaving, decreased numbers of new licensees were entering and some were claiming the profession was dead. With support from my wife and refusal to follow the masses; I was determined to stay, re-create and extend our services toward diverse purposes.

All Star Appraisals is a Real Estate Appraisal company. We are state Licensed & Certified appraisers covering most of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We specialize in residential Real Estate such as single family homes, condominiums and 2-4-unit income properties. We are most proud of the ability to extend our services for broad purposes. What sets us apart from others is our devotion to each project.
