Today we’d like to introduce you to Galit Peled.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Mamanet is a cachibol league designated for mothers and woman 30 and over. Our agenda is to promote physical health, networking, social gathering, and building community. We empowering woman by giving them sense of belonging. My name is Galit Peled, resident of Encino. I am married with three children. The one thing that got me excited about Mamanet was the sense of belonging to my community. I saw the opportunity to bring mothers like me together through sport. My team name is Mamacino because I represent my city. In the short time of its existence we have made a tremendous impact with our Los Angeles communities: Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood, Encino, and Los Angeles City. We have grown to 17 teams with over 250 players within the first year from just word of mouth.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In Los Angeles, we have grown to 17 teams with over 250 players in less than two years just from word of mouth.
Please tell us about Mamanet LA.
In the short time of Mamanet’s existence, we have made a tremendous impact within our Los Angeles communities. During many of our events, we get a large turnout and people get excited about our games, activities and the passion for this sport. As a member of Mamanet, we all volunteer our time and dedication to different social programs. We are a social movement!!! There are a lot of sports organizations out there but only Mamanet has the unique value to make a difference: mothers bring families, families create communities and communities make a change. We empower woman and giving them sense of belonging. We find ourselves engaged in many community outreach programs throughout the year:
In October, During the breast cancer awareness month, Mamanet dedicates its time and resources to hold a Tournament At Chatsworth with the message of we play on the court and not with our lives, As mothers we have social and health responsibility for ourselves and for others.
Another program we are involved with is “StarNet”. Mamanet collaborated with “Maagalim” organization which provides activities and support for young adults and kids with special needs.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our goal is to duplicate this model and bring it to all the communities around Los Angeles. That more mothers will get involved in an organization such as Mamanet the greater the benefit will be for their kids, schools and their communities. It is our vision that wherever there are mothers – there will be a Mamanet league, which will enhance their health, serve as positive role models as well as contribute to building a stronger community.
