Meet Galia Lahav of Galia Lahav House of Couture in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Galia Lahav.

Galia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been an art enthusiast and I even taught arts and crafts for 15 years in school. Only In my 30’s, with great support from my husband, I started designing couture custom outfits, from my home studio, to private clients. I have a strong passion for couture since my mother taught me how to sew, from a very young age, and I observed every inch and every detail.

I used to sew my outfits from age 12-13, loved it and, eventually, as you know, made a career out of it. Today I’m running the business, as founder and head of design, with my 3 children, who were there from starts, as infants. We have more than 60 sale points worldwide. and we’re proud to be considered one of Israel’s top exporters in the fashion industry.

Our couture gowns are sold in world known boutiques and dept. stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Browns London, Takami conglomerate in Asia and, more…

We’re all very committed to the family business and invest everything we have in it, in order to grow and maintain the success we had thus far.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road, and we can’t count of it to be so. The world has changed, 20 years ago, you couldn’t have reach 20% of our clients we can reach today. It’s amazing! But it’s not easy to adapt so quickly and correctly. Also, every business has challenges aside from the business itself- the fashion! I need to take care of my team, our workers, and still be always up to date and deliver high-end garments. It’s challenging, dynamic and exciting. I’m fortunate to have strong support from my family and I’m willing to keep up the hard work for as long as I get a chance to.

Galia Lahav House of Couture – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in body contouring and very fitted silhouettes. We achieve this by using special blends made for us, which allows us to provide both beauty and comfort. All fabrics used are exclusively made for us, and we invest 20% of our time in research and looking for new innovative fabric and technologic processes that can give more aspects to the design. Every dress is a combination of few layers, which is an art by itself. I’m very proud of the commitment we all have for creating high-end fashion and how we integrate fashion per say and bridal wear.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I don’t want to commit to one proud moment, but I would definitely say that being accepted to the official calendar of mode-a-paris, and presenting in Paris couture week was an amazing achievement for us and it was a fabulous experience.
