Today we’d like to introduce you to Fresh Tribe L.A.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Fresh Tribe L.A. was created during the height of the pandemic as Health and Wellness became a major priority for our family like so many. We also noticed there wasn’t much of a dialogue around preventive health measures that our community could or should be taking in light of COVID. If we’ve learned anything from the recent pandemic, it’s that the best defense is practicing good habits daily and putting the right thing in our body so our body will do right by us – that means healthier eating, understanding nutrition and overall wellness and of course being active. We wanted to create something intentional for our community as a family. So we created Fresh Tribe L.A. (FTLA) in August 2020 with a mission to promote and provide access to fresh and healthy living in community food deserts.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There has definitely been challenges in getting Fresh Tribe up and running, but it has been a wonderful learning experience. We have definitely had to call on our “Tribe” for support.
Due to COVID, our construction has been greatly delayed but in the interim, we are working on establishing the FTLA brand and getting the community familiar with Fresh Tribe L.A. being a resource for all things Wellness – mental, physical and spiritual. As we await breaking ground on our flagship location, we are able to partner with those in our Tribe, like Alrick Augustine with Keep It Run Hundred, Briana Yvette at Kaleidescope Mama and the Think Watts Foundation to promote and support community wellness.
We also have been blessed to be able to continue to raise funds for construction with selling our family-owned Ethiopian Coffee. Our signature juices will be coming soon!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fresh Tribe is a lifestyle brand, retailer and manufacturer of fresh blended juices, Ethiopian coffee, and other pre-packaged wellness products. The Fresh Tribe retail flagship will cater to the local community with a focus on those who are determined to carry out living a healthy lifestyle.
Research shows food deserts are more abundant in minority neighborhoods, so the Fresh Tribe team intentionally chose to launch our first store-front in the View Park-Windsor Hills community to fill the void of quick healthy food options and be a source for Wellness programming.
We wanted to create something intentional for our community as a family. Fresh Tribe LA is more than a juice bar we will also hold monthly community workshops focused on health & wellness, education and financial literacy. We looked at all of our backgrounds – Lindsay in marketing and retail, Tarwa in criminal justice and Nawal in social work, and made the commitment to establishing Fresh Tribe L.A. not only as a Wellness Juice Bar and Cafè but also a social enterprise that gives back to the community that raised us.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help and lean into your “Tribe”. Tribe (or network) is a pillar to the overall business of Fresh Tribe L.A. so we truly believe connecting with your community is essential to growing both professionally and personally.
As we anticipate our store-front opening, we have relied on our network, our Tribe, for support in reaching our local community and connect to those outside of our immediate network.
