Today we’d like to introduce you to Franz Harary.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Franz. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been entranced by the possibilities of magic from a young age, practicing and designing my own illusions. I took a chance and sent Michael Jackson a video of one of my own illusions, making my high school marching band disappear. A few weeks later he flew me out to Los Angeles where he hired me to create magic for the Jackson’s Victory Tour. Since then, when I haven’t been doing my own live shows, I’ve been creating concert magic for superstars like Madonna, Missy Elliot, Usher, and Justin Bieber, but also for product commercials, music videos, corporate shows, and product unveilings. I even worked with Nasa – making their Space Shuttle disappear in front of a live audience was one of my favorite things I’ve ever done.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anytime you set out to do something new and different from others, you find yourself not only selling yourself but needing to educate the public and buyers as to what your product and service even is. This has been my challenge from day one.

My business is the business of wonder. People know you can do anything with movie magic, but when you do the same thing, live, in person… you get this opportunity to create this childlike wonder and awe that you so rarely get these days. And it’s not a one-time thing. You have to be constantly changing and evolving with the time and the technology, so that you’re always doing something new, something shocking, and redefining magic in the process.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
Luck is everything. A career in entertainment is like deep sea fishing. You spend your life trying to catch the whale, but you’re happy with any fish. Luck determines the outcome but probability dictates the more time and sweat you put into the effort, the better your chances become.
