Meet Frank Fitzpatrick of 5 Bar Beef in Trabuco Canyon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Fitzpatrick.

Frank, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I decided I wanted to be a cowboy when I was 8 years old. I haven’t changed my mind since.

I took agriculture in high school and was a member of Future Farmers of America, FFA.

In high school I raised cattle, sheep and pigs and owned horses.

I attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and received a bachelor of science in animal science and an AA in Ag business.

After graduating college, I went to work in ranches in northern CA, Idaho, Nevada and Oregon..

I worked for 17 different cattle ranches in the Great Basin, from 1971-1979.

September 18, 1979, I bought 7 Barzonna and Beef Master cattle.

I ran my cattle in Owyhee County, Idaho.

In the spring of 2004, I started selling grass-fed beef in Southern, CA in Orange County.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh god! A combination of drought, flood, pestilence, great stupidity and poor judgement. The only thing we did not do is quit.

5 Bar Beef – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We sell the best beef anywhere!

We sell from conception to your plate beef, that has been conceived, born, raised, and slaughtered with only one owner. We use no man-made chemicals including vaccines, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, or pour-ons.

What sets us apart is our innate understanding of the interaction of the environment and food.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting a letter from the president of Cal Poly. I received this letter in 2013 citing me for my leadership, vision and tenacity.

My college legacy was less than stellar.
