Meet Frank Chindamo of LaughMD in 90068

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Chindamo.

Frank, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I created an innovative new laughter App that helps addiction sufferers feel better and heal faster. The opioid crisis in America is no laughing matter (President Donald Trump has declared the opioid epidemic a national public health emergency).

The LaughMD App debuted April 4-7 in Chicago-Oak Brook at the 2019 annual conference for the www.AATH.org (Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor), and at the Gratitude Lodge addiction treatment center in greater Los Angeles. Now that’s something to smile about!

Has it been a smooth road?
Defining our target demographic was challenging. Initially, I reached out to hospitals and had little success. Then, I targeted addiction treatment centers because laughter is the best medicine for helping people feel better and heal faster. It’s going swimmingly — the LaughMD App is launching this month at Gratitude Lodge recovery center in greater Los Angeles.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LaughMD – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
In today’s “I want it now” culture, group therapy, and nutritional counseling are not enough to attract clients to an addiction treatment center. They want greater engagement and trending treatment modalities.

Drug and alcohol treatment centers are realizing that if they want to boost marketing edge and patient satisfaction metrics, they have to offer patients more perks, like the LaughMD APP.

LaughMD is a therapeutic humor APP featuring a curated library of thousands of family-friendly, trigger-free comedy videos. The LaughMD APP helps people in recovery feel better and heal faster because scientific research has shown laughter to be effective in reducing stress, increasing endorphins and serotonin, and boosting the immune system.

Said LaughMD’s founder Professor Frank Chindamo, “This isn’t an unorthodox treatment like ‘energy healing’ or ‘goat yoga.’ Everyone’s heard the expression, ‘Laughter is the best medicine.’ At the same time, addiction recovery is very serious business. We’ve lost more Americans to opioid addiction so far than we did in all of World War II. But now we can combine age-old wisdom with 21st-century technology to create a solution which is both new and intuitive.”

The LaughMD APP is being released this week in Chicago at the 2019 annual conference for the www.AATH.org (Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor). Said AATH President Paul Osincup, “What better place to debut a technologically advanced solution which creates healing through laughter?”

Gratitude Lodge founders Brooks Butler and Mark Williams are early adopters; “We wanted a treatment modality that translated IRL. It’s a tool that can travel with patients during their recovery journey while living sober outside of rehab. LaughMD technology actually supports a community where treatment center leadership is able to track a patient’s sobriety journey. That’s a huge value-add for a program’s success rate.

It also increases insurance companies understanding that such programs are working and saving lives. There’s a lot of buzz about patient satisfaction metrics. For Gratitude Lodge, that’s an unintended consequence of LaughMD. Our focus is on providing a recovery environment that fosters growth and positive change so people can lead successful and sober lives.”

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
Best: diversity and innovation. Least: traffic 😉
