Meet Floyd Miles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Floyd Miles.

Floyd, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to the Bronx, New York in 2013 from Indiana. I was born on the east coast but moved to Indy when I was about 13. I had a cousin who knew a few people in the industry which connected me to Dave East. When we first met, he walked in on my session and asked to get on my song. We started to build a relationship and I’d pull up to sessions whenever he needed a singer. I landed one placement on “Black Rose” and two placements on his project “Hate Me Now.”

After the success of Dave East’s “Hate me Now” I was still figuring out my sound and what direction I wanted to go as an artist. I started to record myself and that’s when I really started to flourish into my own wave of creating. I moved to Los Angeles in 2018. As soon as I got here, I got a call from East again to be a part of his project “Karma 2”. I created the song “Day Dreaming” which was made the single. In 2019 I’d go on to release my first full body of work titled “Save Yourself” which really solidified my sound and who I am as an artist. I originally mixed, mastered and recorded the whole thing on my own, now the remastered version is available on all platforms. I feel like I found my voice in this album and was able to give people a full body of work that defines me and my ascension musically and spiritually.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth having comes easy. Like Nipsey said, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Where I am is where I’m supposed to be. It’s hard for me to shed light on the struggles I’ve had when I know every musician has gone through it, everybody has a story.

Without complaining one struggle for me has been the mix up of Floyd Miles. Every release with Dave east has been connected to the late jazz musician “Floyd Miles” on streaming services. So still to this day, people don’t know who I am. In a way, I appreciate it because it has kept me in my own lane but it has stagnated my trajectory. I truly believe there is a reason for everything though. If it would’ve been easy for me, I never would’ve come into the artist I am today.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a creative I do many things. I edit my videos, I create cover art, I produce just to name a few things but what I’m most known for is my singing and my writing. I started trying to get into music being a writer until I noticed that I sing my songs better than anyone. I don’t create for money I create from a genuine place. Who better to tell my story than me? I’d say what sets me apart from artists now is the fact that I care about the words and energy I am pushing to people. I embrace all feelings in my music but I do my best to offer positive outlooks on love, money, relationships, history, etc. I only want to impact people and their conscious/subconscious positively which inspired my album “Save Yourself”.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m not sure about the industry but for me, in 5 to 10 years I expect to be a successful artist/CEO. With or without the industry. I’m more focused on my people rather than the industry. A lot of corruption is coming to light. I stay in my own lane. My music is an acquired taste so I’m focused on whoever wants to go with me on this journey.
