Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Perdomo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Fernando Perdomo. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I am from Miami Florida. I did pretty good over there playing on major Latin records.
Some went platinum and topped the charts. I needed a change and moved out to Reseda in 2012. It has been the best career move I have ever made. The Valley is so inspiring, The Weather is impeccable, and I am close enough to Hollywood to feel a part of the music scene while enjoying the laid back beauty of suburban life. My music production career blossomed out here with some legendary artists calling me up. I co-produced two records for Linda Perhacs that got a huge amount of press as they were her first records in over 44 years… The same happened soon after when I recorded all the bass on “Rainbow Ends,” the comeback record for Emitt Rhodes. On that record, I found myself in the same room with some of LA’s most successful pop musicians like Jason Falkner, Roger Manning Jr., Jon Brion, Aimee Mann, and The Bangles…
I started attending a weekly jam that happens every Tuesday at Canter’s Deli on Fairfax. I became a F.O.C.K.R (Friends of Canters Kibbitz Room) almost immediately, and I was spotted by a producer named Andy Slater who brought me into a new project he was producing called Echo in The Canyon. Soon I found myself recording guitars on a new record of 60’s folk-rock songs re-imagined by Jakob Dylan as duets with the likes of Fiona Apple, Beck, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, Eric Clapton, Jade, Neil Young, and more. The album became a movie that comes out May 24th in theaters. The film has been called the definitive film on Folk Rock, and I still pinch myself that it exists and I am in it.
I also love the original music I am currently creating. My own personal albums have been critically acclaimed in the progressive rock, and singer-songwriter genre’s my latest being the two Out to Sea albums and Zebra Crossing which was recorded at Abbey Road in London and my Reseda Ranch Studios I am in a band called The Dirty Diamond which is about to release a single called “Going through Changes (featuring Andra Day)” and an album called From the Stars which I am very proud of
I also have been working with a few progressive rock groups like The New Empire where I have filled the shoes of the late great Peter Banks who was the founding guitarist of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Band YES. I am also working with a supergroup called In Continuum which is really making waves all over the world. I love how busy I am and how much variety I have in my professional life and career. I have no plans on slowing down any time soon.
Has it been a smooth road?
Packing up your life and moving 3000 miles is never easy. I also moved away from my family which was a real sacrifice. I was lucky to have a great support system of friends out here to show me around. I also found a great place to live in Reseda. I really love this area.
I am proud to be a “Valley Boy.” I also met my love, Cyndi Trissel, out here. We have a similar story. She moved across the country to study at AFI and is now a freelance film editor. It is so great to have a partner who is equally driven in the creative arts. We help and inspire each other. Love wins!
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My recording studio is called Reseda Ranch Studios. I love working with Singer/Songwriters on making their songs come to life. I also love making music for commercials. I have had songs placed in ads for McDonald’s, Target, Dunkin Donuts, Toyota, Honda, and more.
I am a multi-instrumentalist and find myself being a one-man band for people often. Its pretty fun to wear so many hats in the studio… Drummer, Guitarist, Keyboardist, Bassist and most importantly… psychologist!
Through the internet, I have clients all over the globe… I love recording guitars and sending the files to as far as Japan!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is the best… It is really all it’s cracked up to be… So inspired!
