Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia St. Denis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Felicia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had recently moved to LA and was working as a waitress at a restaurant and I started doing flower arrangements for them. Pretty soon I was making arrangements for other restaurants in my garage. I saw a nearby storefront for available and thought, there’s my spot for my flower shop. So, at 23 and knowing really nothing about flowers or business, I signed a lease! At the restaurant I was working at, one of our daily customers was the man who owned L.A. Gear, and now Skechers, He was admiring my arrangements and told me if I opened a store he would be my 1st customer. True to his word, he was and still is today, 27 years later.
About 2 years after I opened, the space next door became available. Being from Seattle but knowing nothing about coffee, I signed another lease! We knocked the wall out and made it one cool space with flowers, gifts, cards, and coffee.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a small business is not easy. You wear lots of hats. I think the struggles along the way are called learning the hard way. Sometimes it can really be a challenge, but it makes you stronger, and wiser, hopefully.
Please tell us about Flowers by Felicia.
Over the years I have provided flowers for some really loyal, wonderful customers that trust me with their most important events. I strive to keep my arrangements current, fresh, and unusual. We specialize in custom florals and are known for our great array of gifts and cards. I’m really proud to have customers like the Los Angeles Lakers and Skechers USA to name a few. They keep you on your game!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Honesty, knowledge, and being a good listener.
